Zimbabwe Tri Series: Australia/South Africa/Zimbabwe

That is even worse, South Africa A had no one. Honestly I have seen enough to say Hughes will either be a test specialist or nothing.

I'm saying try Smith or Haddin as fill in openers, or the Big Show. Trial all 3 of them.

Wow, I don't know how you manage it, but with each post the mouth breathing gets worse and worse.

Almost would have liked to see Richardson retained just so we could give him a genuine test in a death pressure situation

No thanks.

That was a very mediocre all round performance - I know the pitch skewed the match in terms of how much assistance it gave the spinners, but they completely tied our batsmen in knots. I expected to see the game go the way of the similar encounter last Friday with Zimbabwe strangling SA to a fairly mediocre score, only that this time, unlike the South Africans weren't able to put much pressure on the chase. We didn't bowl terribly, but it's pretty uninspiring watching Lyon and Maxwell bowl after watching the production line of Zimbabwe's part time offies look like Murali. It interesting to note how badly we fare as producers of spin bowlers in comparison to a number of struggling cricket nations. Something to do with our pitches? Or the coaches in development pathways?

I do expect that we'll bounce back with the bat against the South Africans who don't have the suffocating depth of spinners to tie our batsmen down like that, but there's still a lot of questions that haven't been answered by our side.

In regards to the A games, just because you haven't heard of a player, it doesn't mean they aren't any good.

I love these threads when Australia lose :)

I'm actually more happy about Zimbabwe getting a win than I am angry about us losing a game ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

de Lange, Abbott, Phangiso and Hendricks were all involved in those recent games. All are around the mark in the fight for spots in the South African attack.

Some questions were answered, but they were the ones for which we already knew the answer.

Game kicks off in a little under 2 hours - what do we think for the team?

Wondering if Hughes will get punished for not scoring big in a game we lost - Haddin might have another go at opening. Cutting was okayish, think Faulkner might actually be in line for a kick up the bum.

Anyways, if I was picking I'd probably go Finch, Hughes, Smith, Marsh, Bailey, Maxwell, Haddin, Cutting, Johnson, Richardson, Lyon

Assuming ABDV is fit the SA side just about picks itself. Maybe Morkel in for Phangiso?
