The part of this post that doesn't sit quite right with me is the trade aspect - why are we giving up a second rounder for a player who would clearly have a sufficient reason to activate his 'get out' clause?

Expedience. Stop the whole thing going **** up because we get too cute and miss the trade window due to a court injunction.

A second rounder (if that is really all it will take) is an absolute bargain. Let's not urinate on their carcass.

Not doubting your info, but why we pre determine the value of a ruckman who is only 26, was a top 5 pick and would have I would think at least 6 teams biding for his services( port, hawks, pies, blues, north cats) as low as a second round draft pick, seems a bit strange even if leppa doesn't rate him. Just hoping that's bare minimum trade value and not starting point

Couldn't agree more. Get it done ASAP.

Wow if Ryder takes his whack then I imagine it could start a flood of deals with ASADA... Why wouldn't the players want to get it finalised and over with.
ASADA aren't just going to give up regardless of Fridays outcome.

Storm's over.

Trade's on!

If Ryder accepts a penalty (which is allegedly fundamental to the deal), then whole thing goes **** up anyway for Essendon. The other questions that this scenario poses is - what penalties will Ryder be offered by ASADA (this would be significant to know before we commit to him) and what most people seem to have forgotten is will WADA be satisfied with such an arrangement?

ESSENDON’S Paddy Ryder will meet Lions officials in Brisbane tonight.

The Bombers ruckman was scheduled to arrive late this afternoon with his partner Jess McDonald, a Queenslander, for a barbecue with Lions football manager Dean Warren, coach Justin Leppitsch and CEO Greg Swann to hear their pitch for his much sought-after signature.
