It becomes a hard concept to precisely define, and can spur a load of questions / issues / arguments that have to be contended with:There is merit to use these drugs to help athletes get back to what they are capable of. Performance enabling if you will.
- Is an athlete really 'capable' of a certain performance level if they need drugs to get there ? If it's just a matter of getting there quicker with the drugs than they would without the drugs, how is that better than, say, putting on muscle quicker with drugs than they would without drugs ?
- Is a drug that enables a 35 year old to perform at the same level they did when they were 30 years old 'performance-enabling' or 'doping' ?
- etc.
