Here's a question, how does a player quit whilst he is under contract?

He doesn't. He politely requests a trade and hopes his club are agreeable.

It's completely doable, and yeah IF say Crisp + 4 was the deal and pick 4 came off then we could potentially come out ahead, but it still doesn't suit us to have a bloke who's still got 1 mil (potentially more) remaining on a contract just up and say he wants out. It is far, far from an ideal situation

Absolutely, far from ideal but we can make it work. You'd be filthy if, having got Bellchambers who is a really capable ruckman, you couldn't improve the team significantly out of this.

The Herald Sun is saying Essendon want a good player and a first round pick but will have to settle for possibly a second round pick.
Why would Essendon have to "settle" for less when our player is the one breaking a contract?

If we can't get what he is worth then he will either have to play next year or sit out the next two years.

You're right. We're not locked into dealing with one club. I get that Brisbane don't really need him, but you're hardly in a position to play hardball here. If pick 4 is off the table, then there's just no point either team continuing discussions. You don't need him that much and we don't need to send him to Brisbane.

I'm not saying Paddy isnt worth pick 4.
But Paddy isn't worth pick 4 to the Lions. We have strong ruck stocks.
Essendon will do better trading with GWS or Port.
If Paddy chooses Brisbane then its take our offer or court

A good scenario would be he isn't allowed to break his contract, so we put him on the rookie B list and play him as sub in the VFL.

I like Leuey, but we've got Bellchambers who, although not as good, makes a trade for Leuey mental for us. He's a downgrade on Ryder and can't play forward. A trade for Beams (with sweeteners coming from your end) would make more sense for everyone.
