Opinion 10 most over rated current players

Crameri, Cyril, Dangerfield,
1. James Frawley- Not even in the top 15 key defenders in the game atm. Average player, slow, big ego, poor disposal.
2. Matt Suckling- This bloke is very very average in my opinion. Has a spear of a kick but never wins one on ones and doesnt offer much other than his kicking, not a great mark, not a great reader of the play, nothing special- hype because he is in a good team with good defenders around him
3. Travis Varcoe-Cant kick, shocking decision maker, doesnt accumulate possessions, has failed in his career as a small forward and does nothing off half back- another one who seems to go unnoticed due to being in a good team throughout his career. Goes missing when the team does
4. Kurt Tippett- For someone who is being paid so much and is constantly thrown in the air as being one of the most damaging key forwards in the AFL, he rarely tears apart games of footy. Is not the type of key forward who will kicked 70+ goals in a season like he always is talked up to be, goes missing easily and rarely kicks big bags that he should be kicking more often
5. Jack Ziebell- Plays one good game every 5 or 6 weeks and everyone remembers him off those games. Was hyped up so much this year due to having good little spells up forward where he kicks goal, but realistically he is at a stage where he should be cementing himself as an A grade goal kicking midfielder who can consistently rack up 25 touches and 2 goals
6. Chris Mayne- Gone from being one of the most underrated to one of the most overrated. Think I read off someone else's post that he averages 0.6 goals per game this year and has only kicked multiple goals ONCE in a game which is not good enough for a third tall. Has dropped off dramatically on what was a very good 2013.
7. Cyril Rioli- Some may say harsh because he has been hampered by injuries, but Cyril is by far the most inconsistent player in the AFL and is a classic case of a 'highlights player'. He drifts in and out of games way too easily for someone who is regarded as the best small forward in the comp. Would have Ballantyne, Boomer, Walters, Breust and possibly Betts and Wingard all over him.
8. Stewart Crameri- Has done absolutely nothing in 2014 after switching to the bulldogs and a big money deal. Doesnt have much of a presence about him like he used to at Essendon and has no trates which a key forward should posses (strength, marking, kicking etc.)
9. Jack Darling- has never lived up the hype and praise he was given after his first year. Is still a good player but just not what he was talked up to be and don't think he will ever reach those heights. Very inconsistent and gets the 2nd or 3rd tall defender every week and is still yet to really dominate a game and kick a huge bag like his partner in crime JJK can. Talked up way too much
10. Chris Yarran- Similar to Cyril, drifts in and out of games heavily and goes on one good run where he runs end to end and kicks a goal and does nothing for the rest of the game and everyone talks him up ridiculously. Lacks intensity at the ball and game awareness as well. Would be an absolute potato if it weren't for his speed.

Think I agreed on everything here except for Yarran. One of Carlton's best players at the moment. You can't say things like 'without his speed he would suck' because thats what makes him a great player. That's like saying without goalkicking, Lance Franklin is an average player.

Going by club:
West Coast: Jack Darling - Good first couple of years but has been disappointing this year.

He's had a slightly down year for him, but so has the entire team, yet he still put up very similar stats to Jack Gunston, who played in a much better team, and everyone loves. Darling is 8 months younger as well.

I see where you're coming from but Gunston has more versatility and doesn't need to kick goals to have a good game where Darling does. Gunston had 30 more marks and kicked 17 more goals than him this year as well.

The marks are a nominal difference over the course of a season (and Darling takes more contested marks), the goals matter, though part of that is playing with service from the Hawks mids (which is good), compared to the Eagles (which is bad).

Darling provides more than goals as well, he's probably (along with Josh Kennedy), the leading tackler as a key forward. His pressure is immense. (86 tackles compared to 40 from Gunston)

No doubt he had a down year this year, but if a bad year is 40 goals and concerted pressure then that's not too bad. Would like to see 50+ goals again next year though.

If you'd said 1 goal a game, I could agree with that. 1 goal a game is a very good return for a goal kicking midfielder. There aren't any mids in the AFL that deliver 2 goals a game consistently. Not even Ablett. Many full time non-key position forwards would struggle to kick that many goals, let alone mids.

You missed his kicking. He's a terrific kick as well.

The only one of these I would question is Cyril. Yes, he can go missing from time to time, and yes he doesn't get a lot of possessions but he can, and regularly does, change a game in an instant, even if he doesn't touch the ball. His work in applying forward pressure is ferocious and his ability to get in his opponent's head and put them off their game is impossible to quantify. He is a star.

Also this is typical from a Bombers fan. I think every Dogs fan would disagree with you. He's made a massive difference to their forward structure and managed to kick 37 goals for a struggling team, only going goalless 4 times in 22 games. Has a better goals per game average than any Essendon player this year, and would have lead your goal kicking.

Sounds like to me that your over-rating Dempsey. Did he start sub in your final?
I don't think of Dempsey as anything but a solid defender who provides good rebound. Yarran is a front-running squib who fails under pressure.

Wow so many people slanting me off for my list. Ever heard of anything called opinion?

Cyril Rioli - way too much hype over a player who does a couple of good things a game. words cannot describe how far this bloke is in front of the rest of the pack with overratedness. It's beyond a joke.

Scott Gumbleton - never proved himself.

Gary Ablett - yeh so what he's one two should have won 3 brown lows but he is no where near the player that everyone talks him up to be.

Ross Lyon - s**t coach, can't coach when it matters, hot head, screws the club up long term.

BT's commentary - dickhead

Greg Swann - shithouse CEO that ****ed carlton over, disappointed he went to the Lions

The Offer - way to much hype over a pretty nothing horse hasn't really proven much

Big mAc's - never really liked them, way too packed with s**t that isn't in cheeseburgers (patty and cheese)

Big Bang Theory - pretty self explanatory really, who the * likes it?

Forrest Gump - pretty boring, went for too long.

Jerry Maguire - this tops the list. by far the most overrated movie ever, s**t all happens.

lol Daniher a second year player!
insert replace him with travis cloke
cale hooker was the best back line kps player this year. so replace him with a number of pies players,
Yeah nah, Mackenzie was.

Yeah nah, Mackenzie was.
Hooker was the best defender in the 4th best defence in the league. He also provided crucial rebounding ability with the most intercept marks and possessions in the league as well as 2nd for marks in the AFL. Most goals that were kicked on him was 3. MacKenzie was excellent but Hooker was better this season.

A lot of neutrals disagree.

Have you seen bigfooty top 30 thread %80 of neutrals think Mackenzie is better.
Nope, and Hooker was voted best key defender this year in the poll that actually asked the question. Also, the "%" comes after the number.

But that poll went throughout the season so some may have voted half way through whereas the other thread was based on the whole year.

Not sure many dislike Essendon more than me but if I had 1 player on 2014 to add to North it would be Hooker. McKenzie had a fantastic year and there is little between them but IMO hooker shaded him. However its like arguing over Joel Selwood and Josh Kennedy (swans). Both guns and you could make a case for either.
