JAMES Frawley is expected to join Hawthorn when the free agency period opens on Friday.

Several clubs including Geelong and Fremantle expressed interest in the 26-year-old key defender but it is understood he has chosen to join the defending premier.

The strong keep getting stronger. He isn't worth pick 3, but he is worth a first round pick.

I'm not quite sure what the solution is to be honest. Does the AFL have an exemption for its restraint of trade practices, similar to US sports? Otherwise all it would take is one player to sue and we're done.

The debate isn't what pick he's worth, it's what band he's worth.

Where Melbourne finished on the ladder is irrelevant to the process.

Not saying the process itself isn't flawed but if they give band 2 purely because band 1 would give "too good a pick" then they are compromising an already flawed process even further.

I don't think it would be equal if we were allowed to lose players and not sign any.
