I agree that Petracca seems a good player.
I'm just not sure we'll see the kind of improvement you get with time with players like Jack Steven, who came in as a pretty small unit.
Petracca is already full size ( he has lost weight ) so we won't get the improvement with bulking up like the smaller players.
Petracca has already had professional running coaching, and other stuff through the AIS. So we may not see the kind of improvement you get when someone from the sticks suddenly gets involved in a professional club.
But if he is like Ollie Wines that's good enough for me.

Drooling at the thought of Petracca in and under banging the ball out to the smooth moving Acres gliding bye.

PETRACRES

Wouldn't it just be a mutual decision from both parties to void the contract?

Milera indicated 1st he didn't want to play here in 2015, not the Saints doing anything.

Surely this means no payout? o_O

and he left for SA during this season for a week or two didn't he

Pretty sure this season was his first in a full time midfield role.

He was a dominant half forward, took one season for him to become a dominant midfielder, seems like he has a lot of upside to me.

Luckily their is more to improving then just size. I don't see it as a bad thing, he will come in with size so he will be in front of a few which means he can improve on other aspects of his game faster.

I know it was his first season as a midfielder. But my comment surrounding professional coaching still stands, and he weighs more than 90kg while a good number of his opponents would have been 20kg lighter.

Your not serious about him receiving specialist coaching through the AIS means he has less scope for improvement are you? 30+ kids go through that programme each year, it hasn't stopped any of them and it wont stop Petracca. BTW I doubt the running coach Petracca hired would be of the same standard as an AFL running coach anyway.

I reckon Uncles may have been onto something with this lad Paige Cardona has him going at #27 but there is a strong chance we will pull the trigger earlier -

OSCAR McDONALD
Position: Key defender/forward
Height: 196 cm, Weight: 88 kg, DOB: 18/03/1996
Club: North Ballarat
Projected draft range 25-50
Plays like: Jackson Trengove

Oscar McDonald is one of the better key defenders I am really bullish about in terms of advancing to the next level. He is tall and athletic, and also picks off numerous forward 50 entries with his tremendous ability to take intercept marks and rebound strongly. Best described as a general in defence, McDonald – the younger brother of Melbourne’s Tom – is extremely versatile as a defender, and, unlike most key defenders, he loves to back himself and use the ball by foot. He hits the ball flat and hard, and has a really nice turn of foot, being deceptively quick over his first few steps. The Rebels have also used him as a key forward, where he’s shown he can be equally as damaging. He has a fantastic leap, strong hands, really good work rate and rarely ever goes to ground. I’m a big fan of the way that he loves to play in front of his man, often a few metres ahead. Simply, he’s a super smart footballer, and led the TAC Cup competition for contested marks this year. Taking home the coaches award in the TAC Cup, McDonald took big scalps throughout the year, including Darcy Moore, Peter Wright and Paddy McCartin.

I wouldnt be surprised if petracca doesn't play round 1!

Have him play the first few rounds in the vfl to get familiar with the bigger bodys, speed ect.

Will be funny if he debutes againts gws and tears it up!

No it doesn't stop them. But it pushes them further up the development path.

I don't get the whole "he had a bigger body than most in the under 18s"

It's still true even in the AFL, he's massive for a midfielder
people just look for negatives in every draftee to seem smart about drafts

Few times on this thread people have posted I presume links to twitter, but they don't show correctly for me.
I see:

Unsupported media
Media=twitter, then a long number, then /media

Any idea how I can either get around that, or use the long number to find the tweet and read it?

When was the last time the 'bigger than everyone else in the U18s' argument worked for anyone that didn't play KPP? I honestly can't think of one. Blokes like Hawkins and Boyd could beat up because the margin between weight and strength categories is so huge in the juniors but for midfielders if you are big, even in juniors, I think it's only going to help you in the Seniors
