So we've got in the White Group:

Sharapova
Kivtova
Radwanska
Wozniacki

And in the Red Group:

S.Williams
Halep
Bouchard
Ivanovic

Serena has just won her first match against Ana 6-4 6-4.

My picks to advance from the groups are Maria, Petra, Serena and Simona, though a lot will depend on Romanian's fitness.

Anyway hopefully it will be a cracking tournament. Shame for us Europeans it's in the middle of the working day.

Didn't expect Simona to win the first set so comfortable, at least on paper. Still long way to go though.

Very competitive match between Maria and Caroline right now. Maria is double faulting like there is no tomorrow. Was 4-2* up in the tie-beak but lost 5 points in a row and the first set. And as I type she just broke back. 3-3 on serve now. Expect the battle to continue into the third set.

Holy crap.

Halep just took the opening set 6-0 against Serena.

Wow. What a performance from Simona. Wiped the floor with Serena 6-0 6-2. This will be such a confidence booster for the Romanian. Surely, Serena didn't play a good match, and was horrible in the first set, but in the second she put Simona under all kinds of pressure, but Halep responded brilliantly and held all her serves.

This has actually been a pretty exciting tournament, judging by the scores. Full houses for most sessions which is great for women's tennis. Wow dominating and not losing a match, radwasnka just qualifying, Halep through for sure. Now it's down to this set in the Halep v ivanovic match. If Ana wins this in straight sets she is throug and serena does not make the semis. Hoping that happens.

SEMI FINALS: Williams v Wozniacki & Radwanska v Halep

Wanted Wozniacki and Radwanska to win, but of course the final will be Williams v Halep.

Anticlimax to the extreme; the losers of the singles and doubles finals won a combined total of four games. Serena d. Halep 6-3 6-0; Black/Mirza d. Hsieh/Peng 6-1 6-0.

Just another missed opportunity for Wozniacki. She's had a lot of those.

Most of the time, they're all just playing for 2nd. It's sad.
