STATEMENT FROM AFL PLAYERS' CEO PAUL MARSH
http://www.aflplayers.com.au/article/statement-from-afl-players-ceo-paul-marsh-2/
By Paul Marsh Oct 23, 2014

The AFL Players’ Association can confirm the players’ lawyers have reviewed the summary of evidence that has been provided by ASADA in support of the amended show cause notices.

The players’ legal team have had discussions with the players about the show cause packs and the material on which ASADA’s case is based.

The players affirmed their commitment to seek an expeditious process to give them the opportunity to remove the cloud that has hung over them for almost two years.

The players do not intend to respond to the show cause notices.

It is important to note that the onus of proving the allegations against the players that they were administered the prohibited substance Thymosin Beta 4, rests with the AFL. While ASADA is only required to demonstrate to the Anti-Doping Rule Violation Panel a ‘possibility’ of a violation, the much higher standard proof of ‘comfortable satisfaction’ is required to be proved by the AFL at the AFL Anti-Doping tribunal.

The players’ lawyers have written to ASADA and the AFL informing them that the players do not intend to respond to the show cause notices and requested that ASADA expedite the process by bringing the matter before the Anti-Doping Rule Violation Panel within seven days.

In the event that ASADA is not able to meet that timeline, ASADA has been requested to simultaneously provide the AFL General Counsel and the players’ legal team with all the documentation and evidentiary material it has in this matter so that the matter can be dealt with in accordance with the AFL Anti-Doping Code.

We urge ASADA to take all necessary steps to accede to the players’ request for this matter to be fast-tracked, particularly given that:

- the players remain steadfast in their belief they have done nothing wrong;

- the players have cooperated fully throughout the entire process;

- the evidence should have been provided when the show cause notices were originally issued in June; and

- the unnecessary delays that the players have had to endure that are in no part attributable to them, without there being any finality to this saga.

This process has already taken up 21 months – about half the average AFL player’s career. The prospect that players would have to endure a third season with these proceeding hanging over their head is simply unacceptable.

The players want this matter resolved quickly and fairly. It is time to bring this matter to an end.

Heh DonsRule you got me by a minute.

I think what the players' lawyers have done is, they've read through the show cause notice information, laughed at it and said "bring it mother*ers". That's my layman's view of it anyway :D

How easy is this job?
http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/hird-will-coach-while-thompson-in-limbo-20141022-11a67h.html

The run down:
Hird will be senior coach in 2015. He was suspended last year for 12 months.
Thompson doesn't know what he will do or where he will be. He filled in for Hird whilst he was suspended for 12 months.
Essendon play Sydney first up and maybe Hawks second up and Collingwood in Round 4.
It is a tough start to the year.
It will be made tougher because they might be missing a heap of players.
Players are facing bans from ASADA
If players are banned then the 27 players who aren't effected will have to play
The AFL has a contingency plan, probably to play the 27 player who aren't effected, but they are yet to confirm this radical plan
Essendon delisted 3 players today.

I mean there is literally nothing newsworthy in the whole article.. nothing. It is like article-writing-by-numbers-for-dummies. I really can't believe they are getting paid to produce this dribble.. baffling.

Would be interested to compile how many times they have used the phrase "34 current and past EFC players are facing possible suspensions from ASADA"...

This was my favourite bit

Ignore his bitter ramblings guys. Here is a guy that would have rotated between centre half bench and the back pocket when playing footy and is now the journalistic equivalent.

I mean what is it to being a footy journo these days when you don't go to the games and interview coaches like Naill, Connolly and the like, you don't put years of research into the young kids coming through and the system they are coming through like Quayle or you don't look into the cultural influence footy has had on all parts of Australia like Flannagan?

Sheehan, Robbo, Caro and Damo are just pointless appendages ... not worthy of an appendix in the recording of football. Incapable of writing about real politics, enlightening human interest (like Australian Story), no idea about technology development, no understanding of physics, uninterested in environmental impact and incapable of any detailed economic/social theory analysis.

They are as meaningless as the "journalists" of Cleo and Cosmopolitan .... and just as much an intrinsic part of the modern version of bread and circuses.

Do you ever wonder if they go home at night and question their real worth to society? Or are they so deluded that they think their revelations, rumours and often unfair innuendo on the life and personal battles of men who are essentially nothing more than professional entertainers and those who work in the business structure around them adds to our lives somehow?

That they are better paid than Kindergarten teachers who are entrusted with the task of initiating our kids into the life of education makes me question what our society stands for. The sheer junk that they infest the public conversation with must be some weird kind of practical joke by "the powers that be".
