Welcome to Collingwood Jack Crisp

Have a good feeling about Crisp, in a professional environment like the Pies (unlike the suburban like standard of the paddy pops) he will flourish big time. Ranked 13th in the Pies / Lions game this year and ahead of Aish as well.....pretty happy about this one.

Also interesting that in the little grabs I saw today of the press conference Greenwood and Varcoe were talking about the security of the contracts they were offered etc.... and Crisp was all about being happy to be there and looking forward to contributing. Maybe nothing in that but I like the kid's attitude.Hopefully his bite is as good as his bark.

One thing I have loved about Crisp is his attitude. He WANTS to play for Collingwood, wearing the black and white stripes is a privilege not a right which a few campaigners have forgotten over the years.

I agree, but I think it more comes down to age than anything. The other two can see the end of their careers whereas Crisp's is just beginning.

Greenwood came off as being very shy more than anything.

Understood Mark versatility is starting to become a standard rather than a feature. For the moment this looks like holding true but it too will change.

One of the truisms of life is that a specialist can be 10 - 15% better at their specilization than a more versatile performer. I can imagine in the future someone will come up with the idea of recruiting - and playing - a few high class specialists in their team of versatiles.

Should be interesting to see - will that 10 - 15% improvent over a small percentage of players offset the loss of versatility and indeed provide an edge - or not?

in soccer I think you can use 3 subs from a group of 7. That means you can have a keeper on the bench....a couple of strikers and a couple of backs and midfielders. In basketball, you can change the whole starting lineup. In gridiron, the team consists of 23,000 people. In those kinds of environments, you can afford to have specialists

Classic country boy, got plenty of size about him too

Agree Mark though with the amount the AFL has shifted away from some of the core aspects of the game in recent years I wouldn't even put such rule changes as to make that possible beyond them.

Anyway interesting times ahead.

Watch round 23 last night Geelong v Brisbane 2014. Crips foot skills were good, I was impressed with his game. He could turn out alright.

Took Greenwood 7 years to become the player he is.
Took Dane Swan about 3 years to become a regular player for us, in a team that twas not exactly flying.
He was even on the verge of being de-listed.
Crisp has only been in the system for about 3 years, without being given a real shot by Paddle Pop mob.
I was first to say WTF when we accepted the trade !!!
Why are we getting this guy for because I had never heard of him.
However, after watching highlights I think he will surprise a lot and Lions might rue decision long term.
Medhurst was steak knives in Tarrant deal. Didn't do too badly did we.

I knew the kid was a big unit but I didn't realize just how big until now. If we get this kids development right he's gonna be a weapon. If his endurance and speed is as good as reported then we've really got something to work with.

Both he and Karnesis have the potential to be best 22 in 2015 and become permanent fixtures at Collingwood. As long as we're patient with them and allow them to develop who knows what we have at our disposal.

disposal is the key word. There's a reason he fell through the draft and ended up rookied. I'm hoping he does well but he appears to be another player who knows how to get the ball but has been less successful in passing the parcel...

I think Bucks said at one point in the year that our disposal is not actually that bad and that if anyone had been to one of the main training sessions they would know that it isn't. It's just for whatever reason we can't seem to transition it from training to match day, whether that's due to fatigue or pressure I'm not sure.

If Crisp is meant to play midfield why doesn't anyone ever try Goldsack in the middle?

Goldsack averages 11 possessions. Doesn't have the ball winning ability to be midfield relevant.

I think Beams as a replacement will ease any pain
Do you think so?

Really?

I'm not entirely sure, he certainly will be wearing his share of tackles and tagging attention from now on.

It's one thing to be great when you are a part of a sensational midfield but another entirely in his new situation - he hasn't got Swann and Pendlebury taking the ermmmmm lion's share of the pressure.

I'm not saying for one minute that he isn't a fine player or that he won't do well but I'm not certain the Bears will get full value for their bucks.

If he is being heavily tagged, it will free up one of their untouchables, so win win for them. But if Crisp can perform the role he is being groomed into for us, then I don't really care what Beams does at the Bears.

Well I don't disagree but the 'reported' $75K pa is a high price to pay for a tethered goat :)
actually 75k would be cheap :)

its about all his reputation is worth

Has he had a 35 possession AFL level game?

In Round 21 Collingwood v Sydney at the M.C.G. on Sat, 25-Aug-2007 in front of 63842 spectators:
Goldsack had 25 possessions wearing his famous #38. That was the most possessions he has had at AFL level :rolleyes::D
He has so far had 3 games with over 20 possessions in his illustrious career.
I think THATSGOLD has nailed it.
Goldsack Would be an ideal ball winning midfielder.
