Ollie had another fantastic season in 2014. Any thoughts that he may have been subject to the second year blues were dispelled by round one as he tore Carlton to shreds with career bests in all key categories - 28 disposals, 2 goals, 9 tackles. His form was strong throughout the season, playing every game again in the heat of the contest as our primary inside midfielder. He had a superb finals series, averaging 23 disposals and kicking 5 goals across the three games. At season's end he placed equal 6th in the club's best and fairest and took out the Gavin Wanganeen medal as best player under 21. Garry Lyon wrote a piece claiming Ollie might well have had the best first two seasons of any player in recent memory - and it's tough to argue with that.

Congratulations on Ollie Wines winning the 2014 PA Young Gun of the year. A huge season.

If 2013 was the year that Hamish finally got a clear run at just getting out there and playing football, 2014 was the year that his star really began to rise. Hammer played the majority of the season in the midfield, averaging 21 disposals and kicking 21 goals. His field kicking was consistently damaging and players look for him in traffic, knowing that he will make the right decisions and execute his skills under pressure more often than not. His best performances of the season were a Showdown medal winning game against the Crows in round 2 and an important semi final performance where he racked up a team high 33 disposals.

Travis again led the club with distinction across the course of the 2014 season. It was rare to see him unable to influence a game, averaging 27 disposals per game to be the club's number one ball getter on the season. His mix of inside ball winning and outside run and finishing makes him a very difficult player for the opposition to stop. Boaky had many fine games, arguably his best being in the round 17 loss to Richmond as he tried so desperately hard to pull his team across the line. Under pressure heading into the finals after comments directed at former teammate Troy Chaplin, he responded with another outstanding game against the same opposition in the elimination final. Highlighting what was a career best season, Travis polled 21 votes for a share of 4th in the Brownlow, was chosen as an All Australian for the second successive season, and finished runner-up in the club best and fairest, also for the second successive season.

Congrats to Travis Boak winning the 2014 Toots Best Team Man award. Led by example all year.

After a successful comeback from a career threatening knee injury in 2013, Robbie's game exploded in 2014 to the point where he is now one of the league's top players. The numbers say it all - 25 games, 622 disposals at 25 per game, 42 goals. He reinvented the role of the high half forward, pinch hitting in the midfield rotation and pushing deep forward to create one out contests. The accolades were plentiful - the club's best and fairest award, his first All Australian selection and, most prestigious and stunningly of all, the AFL Coaches Association MVP award. His outstanding games are too numerous to mention but it would be wrong not to highlight 31 disposals and 4 goals on a Friday night against Carlton, a match turning 4 goal third quarter in the semi final against Fremantle, and another brilliant performance in the losing cause a week later. Robbie Gray's 2014 season was arguably the finest by an individual in Port's AFL history.

Well done Robbie on winning the 2014 POTY. Most votes ever, biggest margin ever.

Congratulations on Ollie Wines winning the 2014 PA Young Gun of the year. A huge season.
Everyone of us on the Big Footy Port board justifiably love Ollie Wines. Congratulations Young Gun.

No surprises with that winner whatsoever.

Good to see Hammer top 3 as well. He really did step up to quietly become a consistently elite midfielder over the second half of the year without anybody outside of Port Adelaide really noticing.

I believe this must be pretty close to the first time that the Club's official B&F has agreed with all three of our winners.

2014 BF Toots Best Team Man and Fos Williams Medallist - Travis Boak
2014 BF Young Gun and Gavin Wanganeen Medallist - Ollie Wines
2014 BF POTY and Jack Cahill Medallist - Robbie Gray

Congratulations on your big wins, and fantastic years!

Also, the 2nd placegetter in the BF POTY(Travis Boak) is the same as the 2nd placegetter in the John Cahill Medallist.
2nd placegetter BF Toots(Matthew Lobbe) same as 2nd in the Fos Williams Medal.
The 1st and 2nd in the supporters POTY on portadelaidefc.com.au are the same as in the John Cahill Medal.

Great read and can't argue with the results; although dare I say it.. midfielder's medal ;)

Robbie: 525
Boak: 337
Hamish: 219

Crikey.. dat margin.

Gray >> daylight > Boaky > daylight >errone else

Says it all when Gray almost scores more than 2nd and 3rd combined (with second being a guy who finished 4th in the Brownlow)

One of the great seasons.

Big Footy's voting
Boak 337/525 = 64.19% of Gray's vote

Port's voting
Boak 255/398 = 64.07% of Gray's vote

I've been on this board for longer than I remember and two of the things I've always looked forward to are Macca's weekly reviews and the final POTY summary. :thumbsu:
