Marijuana sales tax revenue huge boom for Colorado cities

Less than 20% of the population smokes weed, fewer still actually sell it.

If it's anywhere near 20%, that's what we call statistically significant.

I realise that you guys probably all know someone that sells it, but that isn't the case for everyone. I didn't know anybody who sold weed when I was at high school.

Anecdotes don't tell us much.

What? No it most certainly isn't at all. It's sold in all major shopping centres and along most streets. All you need is someone over 18 to buy it for you. Most households also have plenty of alcohol laying around the house. Very few parents leave pot laying around for their kids to steal.

It was easier for me as a teenager to get pot than alcohol.

Good parents prefer marijuana consumption more than alcohol.

What do people think would happen to the price of marijuana should it be regulated?

I just assumes it will go up because if tax/handling charges etc.

Given this assumption I quietly laugh to myself when I see idiots on Facebook promoting it thinking and thinking they will get a better deal.

I could be wrong though..?

Not that I've noticed. Very affordable in Netherlands, Colorado and Washington. In any case, if it does go up a little at least it's going towards infrastructure rather than grow-op gangs.

the only cavaet I'd put on that is for some teenagers weed really really exacerbates social awkwardness during an important time when you should be learning social skills. I know a few guys who were big smokers when we were teenagers who never met women because they were stoned all the tine. Into their 20s the pressure just built up and up until now in their 40s and 50s are still alone and not very well adjusted even though they gave weed up years ago.

I reckon ideally kids should be legally allowed to drink at 15, but not allowed to drive until say, 20. And then once they reach 25 legally allowed to smoke weed. :D

Fair call.

I smoked for socialising as a teenager. We all did it, safer and easier to get than alcohol. Also, my parents were ok with it.

Gave it up when i started to hit pubs and clubs, then got back into once i stopped going to pubs and clubs regularly.

In my 30s now, Id rather be a stoned hermit than a socialising drinker.

When I first lived in the UK everyone called them "garies". I asked why, it was rhyming slang for tablet. For a little while the naive young me was amazed that Gary Ablett was famous in the UK. And given it was not that long after the Alicia Horan event, I thought it was even a bit of black humour about it.

Turns out Gary Ablett was some Liverpool player.

Drinking at 15? That's nuts. Australians would be drinking at 8 if the legal age was 15.

Well, I would water my plants with bath water from a bucket and fertilize them with the chook s**t i collected from my hens fed with vegetable left overs I collected..

Wouldn't cost must.

New York City police will begin issuing a summons rather than making a misdemeanor arrest for most people caught carrying small amounts of marijuana, Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said Monday.

Holding a bag of roughly 25 grams of oregano, which looks similar to marijuana, Bratton said it would now take more than that much "dope" to trigger an arrest. He said the street value of 25 grams was about $300 in New York.

As more tourists are drawn to experience the city's marijuana culture, thousands of jobs have been created, including a cannabis critic for the local paper.

Police officers were worried when Amendment 64 first passed, a Denver police officer tells Sherren, but that fear turned out to be unfounded.

"We found there hasn't been much of a change of anything," he said. "Basically, officers aren't seeing much of a change in how they do police work."

I have no problem with cannabis being grown for personal or medicinal use. But for corporations to profit from getting people addicted to a substance does not sit too well with me at all.

so you can addict yourself but not via business? how does that make any sense?
