Pakistan vs Australia (in the UAE)

Here I was thinking they might build some pressure bowling repeat maidens and then siddle gets replaced after 1 to get them both going

Pakistan underestimated themselves and batted too slowly. They could have been in a good position to win this test instead its looking likely to be a draw.

Still think itll be a draw. Pakistan still have the rest of today to bat and most of tomorrow to post a score.

They don't have to if they don't want to. They could declare at lunch tomorrow 300 ahead and still be a great chance at winning if they wanted to. As it stands they will probably bat till about tea and we'll have to survive 4 sessions on a pitch that will deteriorate quickly and offer a lot to their spinners.

I can't see us salvaging a draw at this stage.

I think this applies to all International cricket and not just Australia in general.

Apart from some good series away, the home side dominance is becoming fairly apparent when the conditions and pitch style are so different to the opposition team.

As time passes curating techniques become better and better so every team is able to prepare their wickets to benefit the home side better than the years before.

It's going to become a big problem in the future unless some parameters are set to stifle this.
Actually, you're exactly right there.

Although last summer was probably the greatest summer of cricket I have ever watched, it was directly off the back of a 3-0 loss to England.

Additionally not too long ago we whitewashed India, before getting whitewashed to them a year later.

Someone seriously needs to step in and limit the curators control of the pitch or else whitewashes like last year's Ashes would be deemed worthless due to the high frequency they would occur at.

That was a dead set shocker of a day, but every good side has them. We must fight this out and get a draw, the pitch isn't that bad. Make them score as slowly as possible which means the less spinners the better (or at least not from both ends). Make them bat well into the 3rd session. That is our only hope.

It's such a difficult thing to do though, almost an impossible task you would think.

How is anyone going to influence the Aussies into slowing down the WACA when they know they will be playing spin friendly pitches the next year? Same in reverse for the subcontinent... How are you going to tell them to stop curating their wickets into slow turning dustbowls when they know their next series is at the WACA vs Mitch Johnson?

I think away wins are going to become very prestigious in years to come and as you said, whitewashes on home soil more frequent.

Best team in the world should be able to play on any type of pitch IMO.

If we want to be the best then we should know who to pick and how to play in different countries. Use their pitches against them.

In the good ole days 10 years ago we didn't even have to care about the away conditions, because of Warne, McGrath, Hayden, etc... Now we are still a good team at specializing in fast, non-humid conditions, but struggle in other departments.

Only developing wickets that advantages our strengths is going to be a huge problem in maintaining an all round team. It may even deter future prospects from developing their career as a spin specialist due to the lack of opportunities present to prove themselves on home soil.

This is the biggest problem we have re: Spin. Warney was just a freak of nature and even still his best bowling was not in the sub continent where spinners are meant to thrive.

Very difficult to develop quality spin as we don't have many wickets that allow spinners to thrive at 1st class level, let alone juniors where they should be found.

Even if we wanted to replicate the turning wickets I'm not sure it's possible due to the climate.
