News Adelaide Oval Redevelopment - Thunderbirds Are Go

This is what the SMA should be doing - so that they earn income from other sources so that the tenant ALF clubs and cricket aren't screwed - and this cream is used to pay for rent, sinking fund contributions and other capital improvements so that the AFL clubs in particular, have a decent stadium deal.

Article suggest Liverpool were paying for basically the entire trip, so you'd have to think it'd be a money spinner for the SMA.

If the Government has put an offer to Liverpool, then the Government are paying. SMA will probably make almost nothing on the deal.

"LIVERPOOL playing an exhibition match against Adelaide United at Adelaide Oval next July is almost a done deal.

The extraordinary Reds v Reds encounter will be the first time Adelaide has faced an English premier league in history.

But after The Advertiser exclusively revealed in September the state government was locked in talks with one of the biggest clubs on the planet it’s understood Liverpool will underwrite the entire SA venture."

So this line in bold is not the case?

"
The state government confirmed negotiations to secure Liverpool at Adelaide Oval in 2015 in September.

We have put an offer to Liverpool but we won’t be commenting further,” the State Government said."

Underwriting means Liverpool would absorb any losses or costs not covered by appearance fees/gate reciepts or whatever the deal is.

The SMA will make all the revenue from food and beverage if Liverpool comes. Other costs/income streams will be sorted out between the government and Liverpool. I would say Liverpool would get a nice slice of the ticket sales - just like the Rolling Stones.

If costs are sorted out between Liverpool/Gov, surely the SMA would still make some good coin from the food/drink sales.

Anyone know how much revenue would be made from food/drink sales with a capacity crowd?

$20/head x 50,000 would be a decent ballpark figure. The SMA make catering revenue from functions in the 700 people McLaughlin Rooom, the 700 people William Magarery room. You have the 1,455 people in the stadium club - some would go to functions in the Halbert room or Cathederal room. Their is catering to all the corporate boxes. The SMA sell the premium 32 boxes x 18 people/box, then there are all the 12, 10 and 8 people boxes the clubs sell, which the club get the sale of box cost but the SMA get the catering revenue or at least a decent % just like if you buy a $250 pre game function ticket for the McLachlan Room the SMA would charge Port or the crows somewhere between $100 to $150 for the catering. The same set up probably happens for catering at the boxes the club sell, but the SMA could get 100% of the catering revenue from those boxes.

Then their is catering revenue issues re the 100 or so people who are in Port's ONE, the crows Premiership Room, the SANFL Chairman Room, the League Room, the SACA's Gil Langely Room etc etc. Actually all the rooms are at -

Well they're chasing events anyway, why would they behave any differently? Probably up to the government to restructure the act backing the SMA to force them to wear some of the risk involved in generating the sinking fund instead of automatically slugging the two clubs for it.

Here is some idea as the catering for the Stones concert was in the paper today page 16. Supposedly 55,000 - 60,000 expected. They dont say how many beers are expected to be sold - kegs or cups. You add the $$ per item listed below. Meals probably are around $100.

I wonder if Adelaide will wear an away strip and let Liverpool wear their red shirt?
People will be going to see Liverpool not Adelaide.

Either way the stands are going to be a massive sea of red. have a look at the youitube vids of the Liverpool game at the G v Victory - you couldmt see a blue shirt to save yourself.

This video of the Stones set up on Thursday early evening. looks like they used one of those Octocopter robots to film it. They protected the pitch area by fencing it off and not covering it up with those plastic mats. From about 30 seconds into the video.
