If you want the best player of spin in the country to come into the side, I'd be picking Allan Border for the next test.
Or it may be because he has a FC average of 28...
How relevant are results from when he was a teenager?
It is reasonable to hold Mitch Marsh's first class average against the selectors. We aren't the West Indies (if they still exist) or the Bangers. I would rather have seen Reeks picked but even his first class average is cringeworthy.
Darren Lehmann's FC record is even better, but what's it like recently?

Marsh looked fantastic in that 200 for Australia A, but I would have asked him to score a few more hundreds and show he can be consistent.

Even if you take out those results he still wouldn't have a FC average suitable for a test match number 6.
Don't get me wrong, I think the guy has a lot of talent and will play a lot of cricket for Australia, but he was picked off one innings for Australia A and besides that has shown nothing to warrant selection.

Love this fight from Smithy at least.
I'm not sure what both would average over the last 12 months but I do recall Maxwell making a couple of tons and a few 80's and 90's in the second half of the shield season.
Let's hope this gets him a promotion up the order!
That's fair but I think now that we've selected him we should give the series at least.

Honestly, now that he is there I would give him another match, especially considering Doolan needs to go also. But I do think it's fair for us to question whether he should be their in the first place. Out obsession with all rounders infuriates me.

Don't wanna mozz him, but Mitchell Johnson really is a fantastic cricketer. Best bowler in the world, brilliant fielder and a good batsman with a great eye. Digging in for his country here.

This would be my side for the next test. Doolan is not test standard IMO and Smith just seems like the perfect number. 3 in that side. As much as people seem to think Maxwell can't play cricket he is a terrific player of spin and has the runs on the board. Hopefully Boof can't sort out his temperament because he has one of the best eyes in world cricket. I'm not sure it matters who we pick out of Siddle, Hilfy and Starc, we miss Harris and Patto big time.
