What sort of players are Webster and Willsmore?
Webster is hopefully the next Breust. Smallish, very quick, great tackler, clever, skilful, likes a goal.
Willsmore with luck will turn into skinny Stuart Dew/Suckling type with a piercing left foot on the flank.

very strange upgrading both ,now have 4 rookie spots to fill surely keeping webster at least on the rookie list for another year and using pick 50 would have given us more of chance of landing a late gem then one from the rookie list, could there be more to it like ceglar last year though and a few clubs showing a bit of interest in the duo ?

As someone said earlier over the next 3 years there will be probably 8 retirements, and when you couple that with lets say 6 delistments, and 3 players traded out that's potentially 17 players over a 3 year period. Obviously you are not going to replace all of them with 18 year Olds, but lets say 12 are, all of a sudden you have a list make up which is probably to young to contend. I can only think they want as many 21-24 year Olds on the list for when the phasing out period is in full swing to guard against massive falls down the ladder.

Webster will be something if you reckon Langford was good for us this year. Look out for webster he has rioli like agility / recovery and pace unfortunately he also has rioli like hamstrings.

Less rookies. Any chance there will be more Cat B rookies on their way?

Willsmore - is kind've like Jack Gunston, but played in the 3rd tall forw role as well as 3rd tall defender where he plays more like Litherland and also at times on the wing, he is a great kick at goal, but has been used as much on the wing or defense as forward, Utility type player, showed alot of quality

Webster - is blisteringly quick and aggressive tackler, think a taller version of Poppy, just very energetic, but was injured for most of last season, they obviously liked what they saw

The boy is also equipped with a booming right foot kick....Is way better than his brother!

Willsmore - is kind've like Jack Gunston,

He has Gunston's athletic abilities & ball use abilities yes....But in the air he's not terribly good & doubt he'll ever make it as a key marking forward!

Mods it's time to amend the heading given we now only have 2 picks in the draft at 31 & 49!

done

he isn't bad in the air, but i liked him as a leading forward, doesn't miss many shots on goal, but was tried in alot of positions and played well

The reason would be that rookies get one year draftees get 2 so we would rather not be giving two year deals to speculative players.

What's the deal with rookie upgrade contracts ? Is there a minimum term or can u give them 1 year ?

Perhaps the other reason for upgrading the 2W rookies that is being missed is the massive rocket in confidence it gives those players knowing they are thought of with that sort of regard by the Club! The giant uptick in training standards that comes with running with the seniors can reveal more of a player's ability than even he knew existed (but the Club suspects)........I'm thinking both those boys are going to fly around the track this summer and be FAR more advanced in playing ability and knowing the HFC systems than two draftees, and place them in position for 1st grade footy if the need or opportunity arise in 2015 and 16.

Well done Dos W's. :)

One of 'ems a ranga. Don't think he'll amount to much. The guy on the left looks a little soft, just quietly. But I like the look of the one on the right. His face just shouts honesty and trustworthiness. I could see someone like him being a dedicated Hawk for life. Draft that one!
If it were a photo from a movie, you'd look at each of them and think, while none of them is the main character, the one on the left is the sidekick with all the funny lines, who in a disney film would be represented on screen by a meerkat or a spoon. The one in the middle is probably the main character's boy friend, who isn't seen until the fifteen minute mark when he's making a coffee in the kitchen in the background while the cops are asking the main character about her missing mother. The guy on the right hasn't got a name, he's referred to in the credits as policeman #3, and dies in the middle turning point fight scene, because he went to the bad guys in the middle of the night, telling them he knew something about the police operation and he'd swap the info for a piece of their action.

its possible, but Hodge and Dear might be picked up late in the draft by another team, hopefully they slip to us in the rookie draft though......

If Dear is not picked up in the draft proper, then we can nominate him as a Father/Son pre the Rookie Draft!:)....So we have first dibs on him thereafter!

I could be wrong but I believe that ship has sailed. Pretty sure we needed to nominate him like a month ago and if no one else was willing to bid a pick then we could take him as a F/S in the rookie draft. Essendon did it with one of their players.

Not sure it has. Looking at Dixie's key dates sticky thread, it appears after the National Draft there's another chance

Dixie Flatline said:
1 December 2014 - AFL delisted player free agency period (3) ends; AFL club list lodgment (3) and TPP estimates; international players inclusion on rookie list form; scholarship players rookie list form lodged; father/son and academy pre-selected rookie nominations

Yes but as it stands we're not getting 'dibs' on him in the rookie and the club weren't exactly emphatic that he will be picked anyway.
