Formula 1 in 2015

The big question is where does Alonso go. I've read that Alonso could go to Williams as a stop gap whilst McLaren develop their car in 2015 and I'd love to see that:D because Alonso/Bottas could challenge Mercedes for the title IMO. The question then becomes which driver is tied to which engine. Would Magnussen stay with McLaren or would Mercedes want Magnussen in a Mercedes engine car.

How about?

Mercedes: Hamilton/Rosberg
Williams: Alonso/Bottas
Lotus: Massa/Grosjean
RBR: Ricciardo/Kvyat
Ferrari: Vettel/Raikkonen
McLaren: Magnussen/Button
Williams have said Massa and Bottas are locked in for next year.

Just spitballing. Imagine these lineups next year:

Mercedes: Hamilton/Rosberg
RBR: Ricciardo/Kvyat
Ferrari: Vettel/Raikkonen
McLaren: Alonso/Button
Lotus: Magnussen/Grosjean

There's 5 top teams with 8 top line drivers and 2 potential (Magnussen, Kvyat). Would love to see it.
Like it for the sole reason that Maldonado isn't at Lotus.

Old news (a week ago) but, Lotus have confirmed they are switching to Mercedes power for 2015. With McLaren moving to Honda there was a spare team for Mercedes to support and Lotus have got the gig.

This leaves only three Renault powered teams (Red Bull, Toro Ross, and Caterham) for 2015, and that may be down to two if Caterham don't make it to next year.
Surely that's gotta be bad for Red Bull?

not necessarily - the word is that Red Bull become the defacto works team, which would be an advantage.

The big unknown is how much engine development Renault and Ferrari are going to be allowed going into 2015.

I would guess that the pecking order for a third car is engine based by the looks of it. Renault, Ferarri and Honda get first dibs over Mercedes due to there being so many Merc powered cars fir 2015

That makes sense. RB already pretty much have 4 cars running around out there - what benefit for the sponsors in running another?

Caterham's no more. Romanian team called "Forza Rossa" entering next year. Another billionaire who feels like losing his money with no idea about running a race team entering Formula One to feel important. Wonderful.

Theyve been talked of for a while. Big links with Ferrari from memory

What sponsor does Ericcson get all of his money from?

Is Haas F1 suppose to for next year or 2016?

Ericsson reporting brought $US15.5 million to Caterham this year. He definitely pays for his seat but his (presumably Swedish) backers are unknown.

Haas comes into F1 in 2016.

How would a MotoGP style Open Class system work in F1?
Would that lower costs significantly enough?

It would require a complete rewrite of the rules. Plans for a lower cost "B spec" have been rejected in the past

On 30 April 2009 Max Mosley’s FIA issued a statement outlining how the budget cap would work from 2010 onwards. It said: “All teams will have the option to compete with cars built and operated within a stringent cost cap. The cost cap will be £40 million per annum.”
The top teams like Ferrari and McLaren would be allowed to spend more if they wanted, but to level the playing field, the budget-capped teams would have some technical advantages in the form of a) moveable wings, front and rear and b) en engine which is not subject to a rev restriction.
Not surprisingly the top teams, led by Ferrari, spat the dummy and a war broke out. The F1 Teams’ Association (FOTA) was still going strong then and it got to the point by July 2009 where the teams collectively threatened to quit F1 and start a breakaway series. At this point, as TV companies started panicking and Ecclestone and CVC’s entire business was under threat, Mosley’s position crumbled quite quickly and he ended up stepping down eventually.
