HAWTHORN has delisted big man Sam Grimley, making the final change to its list ahead of the upcoming NAB AFL Draft.
The Hawks cut the 23-year-old ruckman/forward on Wednesday, but have committed to re-draft him in next month's NAB AFL Rookie Draft – should he still be available.
"We have made the decision to delist Sam in full consultation with the player and his management," recruiting and list manager Graham Wright said.
"This strategy allows us to have three selections in the upcoming national draft.
"We are committed to reselect Sam in the rookie draft, if he is not selected by another team prior to that."
Grimley enjoyed a strong season for Box Hill and tied for the Frosty Miller Medal as the VFL's leading goalkicker after he booted 38 goals.
But the 199cm big man couldn't add to his three AFL games from 2013, despite two suspensions for spearhead Jarryd Roughead and injury concerns for Jack Gunston late in the campaign.
Grimley requested a move to another club during the recent trade period but nothing eventuated.
The former Northern Knight did not make his AFL debut until last year after being taken with pick 39 in the 2009 draft.
The Hawks now have three live picks – 31, 49 and 50 - in the national draft on November 27.
