Why are people thinking that Curran has or is about to retire.

The "tap on the shoulder" thread:

Haha took me a second to work that out. I spoke to him last Friday at the Best and Fairest.

Agreed. I thought I would go have a chat with him at the end of the night to see how he is travelling. He said he saw the surgeon mid year and he had lost too much cartilage in his foot. He was understandably very shattered. The club are going to let him use the gym at the club. Going to take a year off and maybe have another crack. No pun intended.

#30 Tom Curran

Games: 0
Goals: 0

Summary:
Sadly, life as an AFL footballer wasn't the best experience for the son of Hawthorn premiership forward Peter Curran. Drafted in 2011 along with Brad McKenzie, Curran jr. never managed a game, struggling with persistent foot injuries. After having his whole 2013 season wiped out despite showing promising signs at VFL level due to a navicular injury, it was much of the same this year, struggling with stress fractures in the same foot.

At the end of the season, Curran bowed out of professional footballer with terrific grace. He gave it his all to contribute to the blue and white, but sadly his determination could never be seen out on the field.

And Tom Curran, 20, has been limited to six senior VFL games in two-and-a-half seasons at North, having undergone surgery on three separate occasions for stress fractures in his right navicular bone (foot).

Sounds like a fantastic guy, fingers crossed that everything works out for him. Also, just wanted to point out how fantastic it is that North are going to allow him to use the facilities and medical staff.

Really says something about his character when specialists are basically saying "you're done" and he refuses to take that as an answer and is trying every thing he can to live his dream.

Would be absolutely unreal if he made it back and played a game. Really wish him the best

Having suffered two metatarsal fractures in my foot I can empathise to a degree.

Took me a good 2-years to be able to run with any confidence or without it breaking down, and I'm just talking going for a 5km jog. Can only imagine the stress AFL football and footy boots have on a foot with long-term cartilage damage.

Best of luck Tom, great attitude.

Sorry about the bump but any news on this bloke always thought he could have been something would love for him to play decent football get another chance at it! Maybe even in a north jumper !

He's been out fishing with Cunners for the past few days. I doubt he's been playing anything other than golf, which he now works in roos_fanatic08, due to chronic issues with his body. He's loving golf apparently.

Good on him, met him in on one of our open days and seemed like a day to earth kid. Hope he does get back on the footy field one day though, there was a lot of natural talent there.

Yep working in golf and dating Olivia Kline who is a top ranked Aus Amateur player.

Bloke still posts on all things North on Twitter when they crop up.

Will always be a shinboner to me. Wish he had been able to get more of a crack at it. Could have been absolutely anything this kid.
