Would've liked Josh Glenn, but can't argue with swinging for the fences. Waiting for mish to weigh in.

I happy Caleb Daniel got picked up. We have picked with the maggies in mind
If we have, fire everyone involved

PS. I don't think we did, but the more that mouthbreathers act like its a good idea, the more likely some muppet in the club will condone it and then we're ****ed.

cows get another key forward
Even if Dangercat stays Thompson is on the way out and they've missed the picks with their sanctions to get a Wines or Wingard young midfield star. Drafting best available instead of needs by the look of it. Strange to not get at least one quality mid with their first 2 or 3 picks.

Welcome to Port Adelaide, some guys. Glenn/Bampton/Johansen/Krakouer/Tagliobue/Baulderstone all went undrafted. Doesn't matter got Ryder.

Considering that GWS gave us Hombsch for next to nothing, Neade for free and passed over Wingard 5 times, our first two picks being GWS rejects just about guarantees them long and successful careers.

Summary of our picks :

Pick 56 - Dougal Howard. Forward. 95cm/88kg. Age 18.

Tall developing forward who provides an excellent target inside 50. Overhead marking is a strength and once he takes front position it is difficult for defenders to spoil. Possesses an excellent vertical leap while also showing elite leg speed for a player of his size. Played senior footy with the Wagga Tigers in 2013. GWS Giants Academy player. Averaged seven touches, four marks and one goal in three games during the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships for NSW/ACT. Came equal-first in the clean hands test (26/30) and equal-third in the goalkicking test (24/30) at the NAB AFL Draft Combine.

Pick 69 - Logan Austin. Defender. 194cm/86kg. Age 19.

Developing player who recently switched to centre half-back after starting as a centre half-forward and pinch-hitting ruckman. Excellent closing speed and backs himself to mark and win the ball back for his team. Good kick and generally selects right option when rebounding from defence. Averaged eight possessions and five marks at 81 per cent efficiency in two hit-outs in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships.

Pick 78 - Jesse Palmer. Forward. 188cm/81kg. Age 18.

Inaccuracy in front of goal coast Palmer the TAC Cup goal kicking award in 2014, finishing 14 goals behind the winner with 35.32. He's a strong forward who spent the majority of 2014 deep in attack due to his marking ability. He rarely gets beaten one-on-one in a marking contest but will need to improve his endurance if he's offered a shot at AFL level.

Pick 84 - Billy Frampton. Ruck. 199cm/85kg. Age 18.

Ruckman with good athletic ability, including natural leap and speed. At his best in both games against Vic Metro in the NAB AFL Under-18 Championships. Averaged 10 possessions, three marks and two clearances at 71 per cent during the carnival.

Bampton missing out is interesting. Maybe clubs saw him as having no improvement.

I'd heard whispers that clubs thought he wouldn't have a very high ceiling. Good state leaguer but that's it. Also heard that Cripps was quoted as saying he wouldn't touch him with a 10ft pole.

Palmer is 188, same as Tom Jonas. Andrew Moore 189, Jasper Pittard 186, Angus Monfries 185, Chad Wingard 182. Brett Ebert was 179 and he did OK.

You don't win premierships with marking smalls

But as mentioned, 188cm is not exactly small. But strong marking & sprays kicks is just too painful a memory that its traumatic to recall.

I'm happy we have gone with tall players who don't seem to be injured. Development types with development picks. Seems fair. Who are these players!

So we have one pick in the rookie draft?

Just making my way through the highlight types and judging the value of these teenagers as human beings... Howard and Austin look pretty big.

That is a pretty handy spread of players. I dare say it will be at least 2-4 years before we see these guys in the seniors given the strength of the squad but fingers crossed they all come on fast.
