After this I makes me realize how lucky I was not to of been clubbed by a cricket ball.

Back when I was in U13s an U15s My fielding spot was next to the pitch where the "no go" circle around the batsman stood. I don't think it ever dawned on me that one shot that heads my way I probably would of worn it.
Even training in the nets, it's amazing more people aren't seriously hurt, balls flying around. I nearly copped a full blooded drive when I was about 15, ball flicked through my hair! Also while batting after misjudging a short ball.

I read on Facebook somewhere that during the Melbourne Victory vs Adelaide United game, there is going to be a round of applause at the 63rd minute. I suggest watching it if you can.

Respect to the entire sporting community.

Very hard to watch the PAKvNZ game, the kiwis look sad and disinterested, just going through the motions and all look like their minds aren't fixed on the game at all. There's no way our test match next week will go ahead.

Weird, I almost posted an identical post to yours at the same time in the other thread. Agree there is NO way it will now go ahead.

Yep I think all A-League games are doing so. It will be a very moving moment.

I moved out of home five months ago and didn't take my cricket bat with me, sadly. So I've had a look around at work and eventually found one very sketchy looking bat. The nature of my workplace means I have to put it inside my office door rather than outside it:

Almost embarrassing compared to some of the great ones I've seen in here and elsewhere today, but there we go.

It's the thought that counts mate, well done.

I found this poem on Reddit – which was previously found on Facebook. Sadly it's unattributed and I'd love to credit the person who wrote this but am not sure who. It's too good not to post though.

-----------------------------------------------------

The batsman was in great form, his strokes both crisp & clean,

He’d battled to his half century – three figures was his dream.

On a wicket he’d grown up on against his mates playing for the Blues,

He was battling for a higher selection – he wasn’t going to lose.

For he’d always been a fighter – the next Bradman they dared to say,

He was unorthodox; they would expose his faults….. but boy could this kid play!

He’d honed his craft in Macksville – a boy playing amongst the men,

He was surely going to wear the green and gold – it was just a case of when.

He’d cut and hooked and slashed his way to get to sixty three,

And then a ball sat up and beat his blade…. Surely it could not be!

He must have thought ‘how’d I miss that chance to smash another four?’

As eleven white clothed angels cradled him on the green SCG floor.

He’s padded up in heaven now – on the best wicket he’s even seen,

Facing up to the worlds best bowlers, he desperately wants that Baggy Green.

For he is forever chasing the thirty seven more runs he needs for that century

And the glory, the mateship, that chance to shine - sadly it cannot be.

We’ve lost a gem in Hughesy – Test cricketer number 408,

He was about to step up once again. This time he’d be great.

Twenty six Tests isn’t enough – we wish you’d had some more,

You’ve left us far too early – our tears wont flow, they’ll pour.

So raise your bat Phillip Hughes – a champion there is no doubt,

Forever in our hearts you remain – 63 not out.

That's absolutely beautiful. One of the best things I have read.

I just read Chris Hartley's article in cricinfo. It's very good at articulating what the players must be feeling. I haven't been reading much around this tragedy, as I don't want to read much professional writing about it, but hearing from the current players is eye-opening.

Have to say I was always a huge fan of Hughes- so Im shattered that this has happened.

Whilst the SA innings are lauded as great knocks, i think one of the knocks that is emblematic of him is the innings where he was batting with Agar, where he locked in with fierce determination and did his best when we were down to the 9th wicket.

It was a bloody good innings, and one I always look back fondly on.

Vale Phil.

The "padded up in heaven" bit lumped my throat this time.

I tend to think the vast emptiness of the Sharjah stadium where Pakistan and New Zealand are playing will only be intensifying the sombre atmosphere. Haven't been able to watch but the Kiwis having "PH" on their shirts is a very nice touch.

Disgusting but hardly surprising these days. Cowards behind their keyboards.
Yes, and giving them airplay and spreading their garbage only gives them what they want. They're trying to rile people, pure and simple.

Nice touch from Graeme Swann

things like this remind me that for all the banter between us and the english during cricket press etc, is just that, banter. when it comes down to it they are all decent blokes who probably dont deserve some of the things said about them. Ive said it alot but RIP Hughs, you will never be forgotten.

You would be shocked and blown away, there is already the black and dark humour out there.

No, I wasnt looking just reading about him and the worlds reaction.
