2015 MLB Off Season

Can't say I've been watching baseball or the Philles long enough to truly appreciate what Rollins has given Philly, but reading all the beat writers reminisce about Jimmy, given that they've grown up with him, still gets me in the feels.

So, uhh, Dodgers?

We've traded Dee Gordon and Matt Kemp (and lost Hanley Ramirez), and gotten back Jimmy Rollins, Howie Kendrick and Yasmani Grandal (and some prospects)... we've also signed Brandon McCarthy (to a 4-year deal, which is pretty risky).

Going to be weird seeing the Dodgers without Kemp, but we're probably trading him at the right time. He's 30 and is extremely injury-prone, so his value would probably only diminish in coming years. Grandal, while a character risk, is an upgrade on AJ Ellis at catcher.

Also LOVED the Gordon deal - classic sell-high move, not convinced he'll rediscover his early 2014 form. Don't know enough about Heaney, who we flipped to the Angels for Kendrick, but Kendrick will certainly be an upgrade on Gordon. Rollins/Kendrick figures to be one of the best DP combinations in the NL next season, although both are out of contract next year.

Kemp leaving also opens up an outfield spot for Joc Pederson to play every day... he was uneven in his MLB stint this year, but they reckon he's ready.

One thing's for sure - this new front office has some serious cojones.

Heaney was a top 10 draft pick with Miami and is rated 18th best prospect in baseball. Will compete for that 5th spot in the rotation. The main thing for us is it shaved just under $10m off the 2015 payroll and we are now $18m below the luxury-tax threshold so it might mean we are gonna make a splash at someone.
We also got Rutledge from the Rockies for Diaz which im stoked about as he can play 2nd base for us and we signed Krauss from Houston off waivers who can play 1st base and the outfield.

Detroit got Cespedes for Porcello.... wow. Porcello stinks. Great move, Detroit have some serious hitting power. They really need to sign Scherzer now. Just got Simon from the Reds as well, nice pick up

Disagree on Porcello - his peripherals indicate that he's actually a really underrated pitcher. He doesn't miss bats but he induces weak contact and is a terrific innings eater. He's twice the pitcher Alfredo Simon is. Cespedes still has a pretty uneven game despite his obvious gifts... also a FA next year isn't he?

Thoughts on Howie Kendrick? He should be decent for the Dodgers. Will be interesting with him, Rollisn and Uribe - all veterans and plus-defenders - out of contract next year though.

Im not a Porcello fan, even if he had a good record. Much prefer Simon, younger as well.
Kendrick will improve LAD defensively, think the moves they did improve them defensively. Gets hits as well with guys on base

Alfredo Simon is 33, Rick Porcello is 25

Sure we're talking about the same guy here?

It's taken a week, but the Dodgers' moves (sans Rollins) are finally official.

Also DFA'd Brian Wilson, meaning we'll be paying him $10m next season to NOT pitch for us. Someone will surely pick him up, but I love this front office's aggressiveness already.

as a braves fan i knew we were in for a rough season next year but after trading medlan and now J Upton we are really stuffed. The Bj Upton deal has really stuffed us for years to come .

As mentioned earlier, Braves are clearly happy to sacrafice a couple of years before the new stadium is up and running, aiming for competitiveness. May as well pick up some decent prospects in that time.

Padres though, with Upton, Kemp, Middlebrooks, Norris all on board, clearly going hard for this season.

Trading J Upton was a good move, he was gone by the end of 2015 anyway. Medlen didnt accept the deal by braves and left on his own accord.

The BJ Upton deal along with Uggla have been hurting the braves and will continue to do so unless we somehow get him hitting again. Some of the deals Wren made were terrible (including signing Johnson on a long term deal)

But as Bomber Bears said, we are looking to get our 2017 roster in order for the new stadium opening that season. So i dont expect much from us in 2015/16 which is disappointing. We have freed up some salary with Upton gone and should look for another decent starter to fill out the rotation. Alot falls on freeman again next year (and wont have big bats around him to protect him)

Strong rumours they after Hamels aswell.
