"WOW WEE" with those big signings everyone may as well shut up shop for 2015 the gorilla is finally off Abers back they will be premiers in 2015 & surely this must mean A Potter is a far superior coach than Mighty Mick if you go by the opinions of other big footy pretenders sorry l mean posters :p:p:p:p

Biggest winner here is Rock & st. Bernards getting gun 19 yolds. When will Abers eva learn? Over past 10 years have produced best u/18s but not many to seniors. Why? #whydowegooutsidetheclub?

Most kids aren't ready for senior footy when they come straight out of U18s and it's not fair on them to bring them into the seniors and shatter there confidence, the reason for reserves is to develop these kids for one, two or three years but some kids that come through don't want to play reserves footy and leave to either a lesser standard or U19s, which happens at a lot of clubs. I'm sure the same thing gets said about home grown kids on all the bigfooty forums about top sides around Victoria, Abers just get knocked because they have recruited so well but in the future Abers will just start knocking these players back cause a few blokes on bigfooty say it's not the right thing to do! Opinions are like a&$holes, everyone's got one!

It's official. Our boy Brock McLean has officially signed on to play at the jungle next year.

Massive decision for Brock and one everyone at Abers is extremely excited about.

Naysayers post away however remember Brock was a decorated junior footballer at the Aberfeldie Football Club and the flow on effect to our junior program and the broader local footy community will be significant.

How long will he last though?

Based on some interviews he did last year I believe he is working/looking to work in the finance industry in some capacity.
fair enough, i am sure someone from within the Abers community will be able to help him out for a job. Most of the exAFL players i have come across getting a leg up into a career becomes far more important to them in selecting there club of choice and not the amount of hundred dollar notes in the envelope they get.

Do you mean 20k a week? If so, you are way under!!

Abers had 4/5 in the 2013 GF and 6/7 in last years. In this years Grand Final they will have the ex AFL juniors McLean, Toy and maybe Daniher if fit and or playing. The rest + a few very high played recruits simply won't be getting in. Be pretty funny watching Kefford playing two's again like 2013. Maybe now he's back as a paid Vic VFL squad recruit he'll be guaranteed a game.

Anyway you try and jazz that up it's a terrible number for a long standing community club with sensational juniors.

The other thing about Abers is that nobody goes there below market value. Puff and the rest can say what they like but in 2015 most clubs talk to the same players. It's not just an Abers issue but all players these days talk openly about offers and what they want. Guys at Abers will always say its "over stated" but then in the same sentence say 'i don't need to speculate". Time for a new spin doctor/PR manager.

The thing is that on that day on September it's hard to buy heart. Something all other clubs have on the whiteboard before they run out. (not at away games though bc whiteboards don't fit inside the EDFL's worst facilities). Shouldn't matter this year as they'll be 10 goals up at 3 qrt time.

WOW what a shock, Brock McLean has signed at Aberfeldie FC, I think it was reported on this thread some time ago when Luke Blackwell actually signed that Mark Austin and Brock McLean would do the same, it was just a matter of when they would sign. It was pretty common knowledge back then that Aberfeldie FC would be the only club that had a recruiting policy that would allow for any one club to meet the ridiculous demands that these three players, along with others, had put on themselves.

I say good luck to these players for being able to broker deals that will allow them to receive such amounts on a weekly basis to play local football.

Shadowmaster you seem to know lots so please tell us all the match payments of the above 3 players.Surely this wont be a problem? Then you might want to write what you think a better ran football club would be prepared to pay those players?Crazy isnt it a club wanting to improve. You and your good friend Milkman must have some great conversations with such a wealth of brains lol.

The good old barfly good to see you crawled out of your tent & found somewhere with free Internet & make a fantastic contributions to this forum , so are you like many people on this forum who believe there is no player in this comp getting paid $1000 a game & don't get sign ons .
Do you think players go to their new club on less money because they love the club & comp & ex AFL players are going to come back for a can of coke & pie with sauce because they love the club & comp.
Good luck to abers if they want to keep paying overs on players to achieve the ultimate success but with the money they are spending how long can it last? & if they do win one will the money be their for years to come or will the administration walk away & be satisfied with 2nd A grade premiership in 40 years & let someone else clean up there mess when the money is not their for the years to come & wait another 40 years

Apparently only playing 10 games for the year.
Think this true. Heard he's doing some one off five grand appearances in the bush, one with Fev at Yarra.
Wouldn't cop it as a 18-19 yr old if going ok then told "sorry mate Brock's decided he wants to play with us this week, we'll have to put you back in the two's". They never seem to have a settled side for any period of time, blokes back and forward from Ess VFL etc.
Maybe part reason they haven't gone all the way. Glad they keep doing it though, its kept us amused for the last three years.

Are we an easy target? Obviously we are otherwise a club like Avondale would cop similar pot shots. Like us - they too have only one senior A Grade premiership!

It's highly likely they won't field an Avondale Heights junior player in their first game in 2015 - we'll probably have 8 - 10..

Abers are arrogant and no-one can work out why after only having won 1 flag, especially after spending a sh*t load and failing time and time again. That's why they are an easy Target.
Clubs like Avondale go about their business quietly so why would anyone want to have a go at them?

Puff I respect you but your the one talking crap. Your love of the club is admirable but ppl don't believe the spin anymore. You haven't had remotely close to 10 in either of your GF sides. You will have even less in this years grand final side.

The amount of money you are spending is now officially insane. You'll have a revolving door of players throughout the year but these kids must know that they won't be there when the medals are being handed out. Surely you can admit that talent wasn't the reason why you haven't won a flag lately. instead of making sure that those that played this year could improve, build and avenge this years narrow defeat those in charge have instead decided to bring in yet another 7 or 8 $1000+ recruits.

The fact that you are comparing yourself to an Avondale or Marbys says it all really. A club like Abers should be aiming much higher than that given the advantages they enjoy.

Maybe having a decent coach in the past few years might have helped

Here's some facts....

"You'll have even less in this year's Grand Final side" (assuming you mean 2015) - not even on our radar, our focus is on post-Christmas training, practice matches and round 1 against our arch rival (Greenvale).

The Abers juniors who've trained the house down pre Christmas - Moylan, Toy, Cattapan, Hickmott, Kefford, Daniher, Mighell, McLean, Mangan, Thompson, Barrett, Moore and Fazzolari - all in the mix for senior selection.

Plus there's 12 of our kids from the last three U18's teams training at VFL level - those who don't make a list are naturally in the mix. This has been glossed over but it's something we're extremely proud of and fully support each of them trying to play footy at the highest level possible.
Plus our very talented graduating U18's from 2014 - who haven't taken up offers from rival clubs despite their aggressive efforts and have committed to our program for 2015..

You say 7 to 8 recruits - we have it down as 5 - McLean, Austin, Blackwell, Vassal & Laurie. Kefford not a recruit - returns (actually played a game this year) and same for Phillips (previously injured).

Connections delivered all these recruits i.e. Blackwell mates with Laurie. Blackwell, Brock and Aussie all mates - Vassal close friends with our skipper Cubby.

Also - rather be in the position we're in and still in Premier division compared to the former arch rival who spent upwards of $250K and got relegated for it.

"SHADOW MASTER IS MOST LIKELY BANGFROM50"

I have heard Aberfeldie are in a huge debt having spent 1.3 million in players and coach payments in the last 3 years?

Strathmore or greenvale will win premier division! Money doesn't buy heart! Which there u18s have but won't be regular senior players.

Soooo yep that's 7 that we know of for season 2015 to come into the side plus Daniher??? Again there facts. Why hang onto the spin of the definition of the word recruit? Hopefully Phillips is coming back for less than the amount he played so poorly for in 2013. That's a third of your GF team turning over again. Mate i'm not trying to be smart but why do you continue to try & talk it down. YOU HAVE HAD THE TALENT. You'll never say it but deep down your smart enough to know it. Yet you don't address it.

You name 8-9 non AFL Abers kids in the mix to play ROUND 1 yet there are 16-18 very highly paid recruits who are walk up starts.

Again the spin compaign. Who cares about round 1 or round 5 or round 17. The season is just a formality on the way to the two finals in September.

I actually envy Abers in some areas but the last 18 months has been shambolic and the back stories around some of these recruiting coups as you call them are laughable.

Merry Xmas
