Hong Kong racing

I have mentioned this before, but Hong Kong has taken all our "depth" horses away from Australia. There were a LOT of horses who started off their career in Australia who have moved to Hong Kong permanently, a lot of those Group 2-3 horses and in the case of Able Friend.. a freak. Its kind of a shame this has happened, 20 years ago these horses would have run in our weight for age races and given them depth, nowdays we are stuck a couple of good horses and European dregs who make up our weight for age fields. There is a big chance a good gelding who is lightly raced with a good winning percentage is sold to Hong Kong for large sums of money. IT has detracted from Australian racing. Not sure there is a solution to the problem as there is too much money in Hong Kong

Correct in your assessment. For example, Divine Calling has started racing in HK - Had its first run last month in a class 1, and won with its head on its chest, though it got beat me at its next start - Note that Class one is the step before group racing. Three year olds that get over a bit of distance are particularly vulnerable to HK money - Get the horse over for nearly a year to acclimatise, and set them for the HK Derby ( race all owners want to win ) in which four year olds are eligible.

don't mind the racing. but they seem to go hell for leather in most races. australian racing clubs would kill for those crowds week in week out though
