Rhys Stanley + pick 59 (Jordan Cunico) to Geelong for pick 21 (Hugh Goddard)

Yes I would as well.
It's just you guys are talking like it's already a win. Could go either way.
You saw something in Stanley and haven't developed him to his potential.
We will know the answer in 5 years
Look I hope he works out for you, but it's no coincidence that majority of people weren't sad to see Stanley go.
A couple of good things a game doesn't make you a good footy player. I'll take Goddard anyday of the week.

IMO the Cats will get more out of Stanley that us as they have better fwd delivery than us in our current state.
Having said that I'm more than happy with the swap to Goddard MkII with that pick.
Good chance of a win/win.

Not having a go. Probably he was rated top 6 at the start of the year by a few teams - but on draft day no-one rated him top 6 or he would have gone before 21.

Normally yes I'd agree but IMO not this year. The reason being is that it apparently was so even from about pick 6 to pick 25. IMO I think clubs went for position rather than the best player at times. Goddard was rated 6th but as many clubs needed/wanted mids he slipped. Big thanks to Carlton for picking Blaine Be Bop a lulah to ensure we had the choice though....and of course thanks to the Cats who took a risk.

Wells is a genius but wondering if he's going too speculative over the last couple of years? This is after speaking to Geelong supporting mates....

I think we want to all feel like we have won out of every deal but as long as there is break even all is good. Stanley was good as a ruck man and probably never really settled as a KP player. Geelong are expected to play him more as a specialist ruck, that should build his confidence and if that falls into place he might get to be a very good player. We have very few KPBs and we swapped a ruck man which we are overstocked with for one. So far it's break even./ If Goddard or Stanley become superstars someone will be the loser out of the deal on paper but that's assuming they would have taken Goddard any way. I still think Geelong taking Cockatoo was a great get. I can see him being the best player of the draft in 10 years time.

Pick 1 is overs for McCartin purely based on his value as an AFL footballer at the time.
Geelong have certainly backed Stanley to improve, but if he becomes a solid 100 game player for them, pick 21 will be justified.
If he doesn't improve or burns out then it will definitely be overs.
Most trades are weighed up with potential in mind, it's most likely that Stanley hasn't peaked yet... Though I can't see him becoming a genuine gun ever.
Value as a footballer inherently includes future potential. I don't think Stanley has the current ability OR the potential to warrant pick 21. Our staff obviously agree, Geelong's presumably disagree. Time will tell.

5th including Darcy.

Marchbank - 3rd tall at AFL level
Moore - Played forward.
Lever - 3rd tall at AFL level
Durdin - Best form was as a ruck.

Could argue that Goddard was the #1 KPD taken in the draft...

Could also argue that Goddard is a swingman so might not be the first either:)

Could also argue that we should keep our pants on regarding Goddard until he proves that he can actually play footy at AFL level.

Slider or not, every club over-looked him before we took him. Let's hope we got a bargain.

Such an academic exercise.

We could have drafted McKenzie at 21 and Goddard at 22.

I agree it's a good deal. But the real test is in 2015. Stanley beat nui in the ruck, who knows who else can he beat. Goddard though even at age 18 seems a much surer bet to make it to 200 games than Stanley (injuries permitting).

Personally don't think we win every deal at all ,but really happy with the club getting Acres ( last year)
& Goddard ( this year ) these type of players we have craved to develop for years.

I like the optimism.
All 4 players will play defense.
They might develop into other positions but they were all recruited as defenders.
Goddard may end up being the best. It's all a gamble. All 4 could fall over as well and go no where

Goddard clearly IMO the best player of that group, by a long way. Moore is tantalising with his athletic ability and highlights reel, but i would take Hugh in an open draft each and every time.
Do you rate Goddard as a future swingman BS?

Yes, no doubt but KPD's are too hard to find, I would lock him in as our CHB for the next 10 years.

+1. feel the same way about bruce. sure its ok to give him time fwd to develop, but i think he's more suited down back just like mcpharlin is

I think Goddard s best performances were in the back line keeping Moore goal less on 2 occasions. This bodes well.

lol, all the supporters saying they'd take Goddard MkII over Stanley, he hasn't even played a game, sigh....

Stanley was a good player, he took a lot of heat off Nick, and could match it with Nic Nat. I think some saint supporters expect miracles... I will miss Stanley, I would of kept him (and not Longer), meh.... going to be kick it to Roo vs 3 opposition players every single time.

I wonder how many actually watch a game closely.

Acres hasn't shown anything yet, so let's reserve our judgment. although a four year contract extension is amazing.

Very happy with Acres actually think 1 year in system without shoulders getting knocked around
is a plus ..... Oozes it .. Only certain players do , good idea to get on him in rising star are my thoughts.
Just needs to have good run with injury through career think someone else shares that view with 4 year
contract extension from club.

I'm genuinely concerned for you if you actually believe what you wrote.
I struggle to see how losing Stanley means we'll be kicking it to Roo vs 3 players every time? Stanley was not a good player, he was an extremely ordinary player.

Actually stand with 6 guys each week who have all played and been on average 30 years watching footy.
All without exception agree with the decision , nothing personal against Rhys but to compare his performance level to Nick Nat over 1 game vs a guy whose highlights package during his career at West Coast are legendary.
Longer is 4 years behind him in development his aggression at centre square is great , palms the ball with his left hand at works hard to create pathway for onballers .Rhys has come from basketball background hits the ball only
one way forward with right hand straight to opposition safety hence why guys like Mitchell ( Haw) kill us, has no aggression due basketball background (fouls) .When he plays forward lacked the confidence to demand teammates to kick the ball to him , really wish him good luck at the Cats .
Do agree with you in regards to Roo comments hence will see change Membrey Bruce Roo Lee Billings set up.
Midfield is the issue going forward with the guys I go to footy with.

Not having a go just opinion from a few other supporters .

That matchup against Nic Nat that we always go on about lasted all of about 10 minutes before he pinged his hammy, if i'm recalling the same game. It's a good example of Stanley's potential, but nothing really solid to hang your hat on.
