Stand PAF beside myself & the above would surely be proven false.

...
Ha!!
Next time i drive through that beautiful town of yours we will most definitely have to catch up for that beer.
I'll grow a black & white goatee just for the occasion.

Wasn't saying it was, was just saying that people on unemployment benefits get one.
It might have changed recently - I was on ausstudy / youth allowance for about a month and didn't receive a health card. They had greater restrictions on your previous earnings if I remember correctly.

you need to be below a certain threshold of income (something like 23k a year if i recall) if you have earned over that for the year up to that point before going on benefits, they wont issue you one.

I work and study, i don't get a healthcare card but my uni id still gets me concession for many things :p

You're in exactly the same position as me then. Earned more than 23k in the previous financial year, but still have my uni concession ID.

I was at the top of the eastern stand - the sma staff where making people move down to fill gaps in the stands so they could fit more people in and there was no seats left - massive crowd

Some serious landscaping going on in the north-eastern Pennington Gardens at the moment, which would explain why it's fenced off yet again. Anyone know what the plans are?

Walked passed the Gardens area about 7pm. They are redoing the path from Cathedral to the East Gate, they are putting in a couple of more paths to lead to the East Gate, they are landscaping most of the area and looks like they are doing specific work around a few of the big old 100+ year trees.

Geez, the only real problems with the Oval are around it. The footbridge should have been wider, a decent width pedestrian bridge over King William Rd. near the oval to allow the buses to get in / out faster. And stop just talking about a Casino expansion. Get one done with some restaurants down the Torrens / AO end to accommodate pre/post meals.

Why spend $500m on a stadium already too small and major limitations to expand?

I like the character but serious questions need to be asked.

Only in SA!

Arsenal, which is the fifth biggest soccer club in the world, built a stadium that holds 60,000 in a city of nearly thirteen million people.

The South Australian government built a 53,500 seat stadium in a city of 1.3 million people. A similar sized stadium in a city tenth the size.

Arsenal, as mentioned before in this thread, have the most expensive seats in the world, starting at over a thousand quid for nosebleed season tickets. The reason they can do this is because they have millions of fans within driving distance and that demand clearly outweighs the supply.

Until both Port and the Crows sell out every home game for a decade (including the possibility of some down years), don't expect the government to even begin discussing further construction. It makes no sense, it's financially unviable and it's commercially irresponsible.

Agree with everything but the footbridge bit. It's "not wide enough" for a couple of hours, about 25-30 days a year tops. Which means it's perfectly fine.

If it takes too long getting across it's simply because most campaigners walk too slow.

Or block edges at the ends trying to spot/call friends.

Having been to the Oakland Colosseum and seen that 8m wide is nowhere near enough that one doesn't surprise me, but it is disappointing that research and doing it right was forgone to save a couple bucks.

Additionally after that rained out Strikers game the fact the bridge isn't covered might come back to haunt us. I will be extremely interested to see what some bad weather will do to crowds and also what would happen if we had a sustained period of bad weather for our games re the media and future member numbers.

The only issue that I have with the footbridge is the rude as **** campaigners that feel that is fine to light up and smoke among the congestion!!!
There was a girl (Hawks supporter) smoking just a bit up from me on the very packed footbridge after the Hawthorn match. There was bunch of kids in close proximity to her, but that don't seem to matter to these kind of idiots.

Yes, it does raise some interesting questions.

If we had 60K in memberships and so to the Crows, we should expect to 120K at the showdown, theoretically speaking (typing), therefore a stadium of a capacity of 100K would be the goal. But alas,

It has cost 500mil for the stadium "upgrade", 50mil for a "footbridge" for members to fill a 55K stadium. A pleb like me can see that the numbers do not favour a club wanting to seat every member when they reach this magical 60K number. It makes it a lot harder to capture a new member or upgrade an existing member if you cant offer a seat to every game.

As traditional, historic and original as it is, "the HILL" is taking up a lot of VALUABLE real estate. This reminds me of a derelict building on a huge block that is worth more if its bulldozed down and something new is built on it to create an income and a seat for our new members.

Some Questions people:

  1. How much does is it cost to stand on the hill, $35-40? What is the limit, 4-5K, that's being generous.
  2. What is the capacity of the River Bank Stand? 30K?
  3. How many are allocated for reserved seats in the River Bank stand?
If we keep up this rate, we could out grow this upgraded stadium to a point where our income would remain the same each year. Therefore, cost increase's in memberships would rise to compensate for the increases in cost for the lease of Adelaide Oval. We could bring in more revenue IF there was a St. Peters Church Stand, perhaps another 20K more, which would lower the cost for all members and perhaps make it viable for our club to play there.

Now, I am speaking in hindsight, but you got to wonder now. Its nothing personal, it's just business!
Not saying that Adelaide oval can't improve both, but be wary of damaging ambiance in the quest for increased capacity. I'm in no way a North Adelaide park land Luddite but atmosphere is a complex beast that doesn't always comply to engineered formulas. Let the dust settle for a few years and enjoy the fact that we are a crowd pulling phenomenon again.

OA is fine as it is... For now

However should push come to shove in the future, it would be possible (i imagine) to build temporary seating for AFL matches and return the hull to its former glory for test cricket.

PS. Stop knocking the southern expressway. It did its job perfectly being one way (splitting peak traffic). Duplication has made no improvement except for weekend travelers from the north.

After the first Showdown, I had met a few friends and we decided to head to Peel St for drinks etc. I'd ridden my bike so was pushing that along with me and got to the start of the bridge and realised I wasn't going to get across without pissing a lot of people off. I started to wheel my bike backwards through the throng that had amassed at the bridge delta, avoiding eye contact where I could.

If I saw me, I would have scorned me.

#neveragain

Ever ran into a random bollard at the Oval end of the bridge? Can't see them when you're crushed like sardines.
The campaigners who go the opposite way after the game really gives me the sh!ts

I completely agree. There's nothing worse than being stuck behind someone smoking. To be honest, I'm surprised people are allowed to smoke so close to the venue. I go for a walk a halftime and the smoke as you directly leave the oval is fowl.
