Warriors wait on JT

Link

After missing out on Kieran Foran, Warriors coach Andrew McFadden says they're waiting to find out if Jason Taumalolo wants to come to Auckland.

Reports from Australia say Foran is set to sign a four-year $5 million deal with the Eels. The Warriors have known for some time it was unlikely the Kiwis five-eighth would join them and as Fairfax Media were the first to report, they switched their attention to the Cowboys back-rower, offering him a contract worth a reported $1 million a year.

McFadden spoke for the first time today about the trip he made last week to Townsville to meet Taumalolo and said they're now waiting on an answer.

JT to reject mega offer.

Link

The Warriors have missed out on another big name signing with Jason Taumalolo with set to stay at the Cowboys.

It is understood that while Taumalolo was being wooed by a number of NRL clubs, it came down to a straight fight between the Warriors and Cowboys for his services when his current contract runs out at the end of the year.

As Fairfax Media reported on February 15, the Warriors were prepared to offer the Kiwis backrower $1 million a season to move back to Auckland.

Nothing new here.

Link

The Warriors could find more fertile ground recruiting in the English Super League after missing out on NRL stars Jason Taumalolo and Kieran Foran last week.

The club have plenty of money to spare but are encountering the usual problem of attracting marquee NRL players to Auckland.

Steve Price was the exception to the rule and while they were able to snare Ryan Hoffman this season, they had to offer the 31-year-old a three-year deal, while other clubs, including the Storm, only wanted to sign him on a two-year contract.

Charnley and Hall are both decent players, but are wingers the position the Warriors should be most concerned about anyway?

Taumalolo would have been a great buy for you; terrific player. Another one who'd fit right into the Warriors style is that Peachey lad at the Panthers.

I wouldn't think so.

Indeed he would. Looks a talent.

New faces galore for New Zealand Warriors' clash with Newcastle Knights

Link

Five players will make their first NRL appearances for the New Zealand Warriors against the Knights in Newcastle on Saturday night, with Solomone Kata set to make his debut at centre.

The left centre position had been a worry for the Auckland-based club with Ngani Laumape and David Fusitu'a both injured and Jonathan Wright suspended, however, Kata has done enough to earn the the start.

New signings Bodene Thompson and Ryan Hoffman will play their first games for the club in the second row, with Simon Mannering lining up at lock, while on the interchange Sam Lisone and Albert Vete will also make their first appearances at NRL level when they come on. Meanwhile, the promotion of Lisone has seen Suaia Matagi slotted in to the 18th man spot.

Big blow.

Warriors fullback Sam Tomkins will be sidelined for up to six weeks with his knee injury suffered against Parramatta on Saturday.

The English international went for a scan on Monday, his 26th birthday, and it was revealed that he had suffered a partial tear of the posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Tomkins left the field 11 minutes into the second half of the third-round 29-16 victory over the Eels at Mount Smart Stadium.

Well, God knows, we'd love to have him back. Matty Bowen has been frankly pretty poor for us, way below my expectations. We have a talented lad we can put in at full-back (he played there on Friday), but he's really much better as a 6 anyway.

Massive signing for Warriors. One of the brightest young players in the competition and every chance to be reaching the top echelon of full backs in the competition by this time next year and who knows where he could go from there. Obviously not an 800k a year player now but if he keeps going on his trajectory will be there pretty quickly.

As an added bonus the cries from Roosters fans on my facebook feed has been delicious. "Money hungry dog campaigner" - point me to any the person who wouldn't take an offer to double their salary for the exact same job and I will point you to an idiot.

RABBITOHS hooker Issac Luke will make a stunning move to the Warriors, signing a three-year deal in a massive coup for the New Zealand club.
Luke asked to be released to New Zealand for family reasons and the Warriors on Friday will announcedthe signing of the Kiwi Test No.9.
South Sydney did not stand in Luke’s way, given his service to the Rabbitohs.

Bigger than the RTS signing for mine, getting the best hooker in the world makes the Warriors a massive chance at the 2016 premiership.
