The 'Gabba (Brisbane Cricket Ground)

are there any planned upgrades to the gabba in the future? with the upgrades to AO SCG the new perth stadium the Gabba could be left far behind

Unfortunately no.

I have mocked up a proposal on the Lions board though, fairly minor and it's a bad drawing

I'd like to see the bottom tier of the Southern end of the 'Gabba steeper, while the northern end with three tiers (making the terrain of the Gabba surface lower) and increasing capacity. It would allow the AFL and cricket to charge more for lower tier mid-wing seats in the Southern end (better view) and offer Premium membership packages/tickets for the middle tier of the Northern end. This would allow more quality seating for both Aussie rules and cricket and increases capacity.

the capacity of the GABBA is fine at the moment, the last time it has a sell out was several years ago, when the lions where winning games

good to see they did the most important thing and replaced the surface.

The way Anderson carved it up with the slide makes me worry a little about the AO new surface which is newer than the Gabba's

They had no issues in the Shield game, and they've had no issues here. Just keep your knees out and the grass will be fine. If you dig in, you'll know you've dug in.

Quick question for frequent visitors going to become a lions member next year what would be the best section to try and get into? Somewhere near the race would be nice.

I'm traveling from Adelaide for the round 7 game. I'm getting the train from the airport that goes to the station very near to the ground. I have forgotten the name of the station. Can someone please tell me what it is.
In the past the train has been free if you have a ticket to the game. Will that be the same this season?

South Bank station is on the same line as the Airport/Gold Coast train and is a 5 - 10 minute walk to the stadium depending how fast you walk. You'll get free travel with your ticket, but not from the airport as it's a separate fee AFAIK. Once you pay the airtrain fee at the domestic airport station, you'll be able to use the game ticket to travel the rest of the way!

Someone might want to clear up the situation regarding the air train and the game ticket, but hopefully I helped somehow!

Yeah, pretty sure you're correct. The match ticket won't cover the Air Train.

South Bank is the closest station to the Gabba. 10 minute walk up Vulture Street or Stanley Street... longer if you stop at some of the great pubs on the way like the Morrison or Clarence Corner.

Heading to the Lions vs. Suns game this Saturday and am sitting with the Suns' cheersquad - is that on the eastern end in sections 15/16 GA?

Cheers.

Correct. Wellington Road end.

Gabba sux. Food isn't fit feral dogs for the cost of a sirloin at the casino. And Que up for 45 mins for a flat warm beer when the grounds only half full. Then the 2hr jouney just to leave the suburb of woolongabba via public or own transport. Im pretty slim, 85 kgs and struggle to fit both ass cheeks on a seat the size of a six pack eski lid. Havnt been to other stadiums to compare, but if this is the standard of them in general, thats the reason crowds are dwindling. Good view wherever you sit is about the only good thing. Admittedly if I was going for the home team the atmosphere would be more enjoyable but the whole stadium experience has destroyed footy as far as Im concerned, if they are all the same. Would rather watch it at a pub, have a cold beer, a decent feed. Though I will give it one more crack for the last game this season.

never had a 2hr problem leaving 'Woolongabba' ever

Neither. Lived in Queensland for over a decade, been to at least 10+ matches - have never once had a problem like that. In fact, I would argue that the transport out of Woolongabba is very efficient - despite all of TransLink's many, many other shortcomings. Furthermore, the food is ludicrously expensive, but it's not bad. The pies taste like pies, the chips taste like chips etc. etc...

I go to chermside and there are line up of buses that go on forever. Food is expensive but that's just sporting venues. I usually hit up KFC before a game, although not much cheaper but quite delish

It's stadium food, what do you expect? The pies are the same as any other stadium, as are the chips, burgers, wraps, fish, etc.

I've been to 15k games, 20k games, and 30k games and the most I've ever queued for a beer is 5 minutes. I know you're exaggerating, but the queue is nothing.

Occasionally it's bad, but hardly worth mentioning. Maybe it's different depending on where you're going, but the PT from the Gabba is actually pretty efficient.

I haven't actually noticed a difference between the seat sizes at the Gabba, Metricon, Etihad, MCG, Suncorp Stadium, Cbus Super Stadium, or ANZ. Weird.

Now there's a place where the buses are not nearly as efficient. :p But yeah, 20 minutes from leaving the Gabba to a train station at most.

Same. I'll just grab some McDonald's or whatever I can find. And yeah, I left at a pretty awkward time after the Lions/Swans game this season (after the rush, but before the end of kick-to-kick), and there was still at least 5 buses waiting.
