Retired Allen Christensen (2014-2020)

Cautious Christensen 'coming hard' for Lions' season opener

GETTING through 10 kilometres of running is no big deal for most players but for star Brisbane Lions recruit Allen Christensen it means the world.

The former Geelong premiership player has had a slow start to his first pre-season in Lions colours following a second bout of surgery on his troublesome back in September.

But since the Christmas break the 23-year-old has not missed a beat, putting together a complete month of running, culminating in a 10km session at Coorparoo on Monday morning.

Allen Christensen gets all-clear to step up Brisbane Lions pre-season training load

HIGH-priced Brisbane recruit Allen Christensen has been given the medical all-clear to ramp up his pre-season campaign.

But the 2011 Geelong premiership player is no sure thing to play in Round 1 in the Easter Saturday blockbuster against Collingwood at the Gabba.

Christensen flew to Melbourne yesterday to meet with doctors following back surgery in September last year and his progress was given a resounding thumbs up.

BRISBANE are set to unleash their second star recruit in two weeks with Allen Christensen poised to make his Lions debut this Friday night.

If Christensen can get through training unscathed this week he is set to line-up against Sydney in the NAB Challenge clash in Coffs Harbour.

Allen Christensen to make Brisbane Lions debut in NAB Challenge clash against Gold Coast

GUN recruit Allen Christensen will make his Lions debut against the Suns at Metricon Stadium on Friday night.

The return of Geelong premiership player Christensen means Lions coach Justin Leppitsch has his best side together for the first time this pre-season for a tune-up before the start of the home-and-away season.

The only guaranteed starter who is not available is Pearce Hanley who is not due back from a hip injury until midway through the season.

Leppitsch said there was no need to nurse Christensen back into action after his back injury and confirmed he would slot straight into the midfield rotation.

“He will play, he just has to get through the main training session,’’ he said.

“He came close two weeks ago, we nearly played him but decided it was a week too early.’’

'Bundy' can be better than Beams: Leppitsch

JUSTIN Leppitsch says a fit Allen Christensen has the potential to be a better pick up for the Brisbane Lions than former Collingwood midfielder Dayne Beams.

The Geelong speedster, Beams and ex-Carlton midfielder Mitch Robinson joined the Lions last off-season as the club looked to add to its midfield maturity.

Christensen is only now starting to show signs of his best after arriving at the club while recuperating from back surgery.

Great debut from Bundy I thought. He will be able to use it as a building block for the rest of the season. On the surface his game wasn't that impressive, however, he hardly had a pre season and he barely played any footy last year. His two goals highlighted his class but the thing I was most impressed with was his attack and hardness around the contest. He will be a great addition to the side this year and I think he will have a big game against North in perfect conditions:thumbsu:
