Contador and Froome have been battling at the Vuelta a Andalucia the last couple of days. Contador was the victor on the first occasion, but last night Froome took 29 seconds out of Contador head-to-head and took the overall lead by 2 seconds. Riveting to watch this early in the season.

GB didnt win one gold medal at the recent Track champs. first time since 2001. 3 silvers was the best they could do. next world champs are in Britain, so will be interesting if this is temporary or will continue through to the Olympics. GB are talking that they will bounce back, saying they were all sick or poor preparation, but im not too sure. Our pursuit teams will get better, and their sprinters are way off the pace.

Meares is also now the most successful track cyclist at world cups. 11 world titles.(i think)

Gerro fractured his elbow last night in the Strade Bianche, his first race back since the collarbone. Didn't watch it but a few riders are saying the wind was the reason for the crashes. Van Avermaet has had a good ride with everything else that is going on.

Some bloody good photos in here from the Strade Bianche over the weekend. My two favourites:

The pin would stay in for a year so it would just be getting legs back. Can't sweat a heap until the wound heals so at least a week of nothing and then trainer for a couple of weeks. Maybe 2 months to get back to race fit.
They were saying 2 weeks

Been a pretty eventful few days for Australian riders:

- Matthews taking out a stage at Paris-Nice and has got himself another third placing overnight
- Porte also winning a mountainous stage, hopefully in a sign that he's ready to take the next step and be a genuine contender for a grand tour
- Ewan continuing to rack up stage wins in Langkawi

If Ewan can hang on in todays stage he should win GC, its a cat 1 finish but looking at the profile it doesn't look too hard, cant find a gradient anywhere, the locals are saying its a pretty easy climb compared to the Genting climb which was dropped off.

Degenkolb breaks through with a win in MSR. Seems to get on very well with Kittel, but surely it's only a matter of time before he wants to have a crack at being the full time leader somewhere?

Another solid performance from Matthews, just didn't have the legs in the end but carries on the tradition of Australians faring well in the race.

Sky blew it big time, didn't even get to see if their new suspension bikes even work. :(

Caleb Ewan won the Vuelta a La Rioja last night, Movistar were the only other pro team in the race led by Valverde. Matthews won it last year.
