All starts on Saturday 11th April.

CENTRAL DIVISION ROUND 1
Mt Lofty v Blackwood
Onka Valley v Ironbank
Hahndorf v Torrens Valley
Echunga v Lobethal
Uraidla v Mt Barker

COUNTRY DIVISION ROUND 1
Bridgewater v Gumeracha
Kersbrook v Kangarilla
Meadows v Macclesfield
Nairne Bremer v Birdwood
Sedan Cambrai - Bye

Should be a very entertaining season. All clubs have picked up plenty of good players. The standard in the country division should pick up with lower teams like Sedan Cambrai & Birdwood recruiting well.

Nairne have picked up some quality forwards in Zach Peake & Jamahl Liddle. Peake kicked big bags of goals for Irymple in the Sunraysia League while Liddle was a gun forward for Loxton kicking over 180 goals during his career.

Kersbrook have probably picked up the best recruit into the Country Division signing up 2011 Central Div Mail Medal winner Daryl Ebert (Uraidla).

Kangarilla down a few players in the first game. Sad to see one bloke might have to stand out of footy for a year because his former club in another competition, twice denied him a clearance. Went to a tribunal hearing and found in favour of the old club. Sad for Kangy who has a reputation for clearing all players who want to leave and don't deny clearances. (Fourteen players over the off season were granted clearances by Kangarilla - not one denied). One of the facts brought up at the hearing was that Kangarilla cleared three players to the other club at the end of 2012. So much for community family footy and letting blokes have a kick with their mates........Hopefully common sense ultimately prevails and the young bloke gets to wear a Kangy jumper soon. The club is desperate for numbers.

Thats bulls***.

As if the tribunal found in favour of the other club - the bloke obviously won't be playing for them again, especially if he's moved etc. Nothing to gain by denying clearances, other than a bad rep!

How come you need clearances in amateur comps anyway? Thought you just rocked up and played and paid whatever compulsory membership and uniform fees there were.

The club in question has DENIED 7 clearances this off season. Some of those they later approved after a second clearance. But it's the inconvenience of going through the process again. It's like the club has a policy of making it hard for blokes to leave.... and giving the player a whack on the way out.

You are right Heardy, the club that will ultimately lose out will be the old club because it is will earn a reputation as a 'smart arse' club that players will be reluctant to join...... I also wonder if the rest of the 'old' club's members knew this was going on..........

In the same competition, a Brighton based club processed 37 player clearances - 28 they improved, another 9 pending. None DENIED. That's a good, responsible club (like Kangarilla) that is happy to see players move on & enjoy their footy elsewhere.

In another wonderful gesture - another Hills Division 2 club has offered 4 players to Kangarilla to top up its reserves today.

Anyway, it's a huge, exciting day today for the opening round of the Hills League.

Four Bridgewater players turned out for Kangarilla 2nds. They went alright - one of them was clearly in the best three Kangarilla players.

Great respect goes out to Bridgewater for ensuring these guys got a game of footy & for helping out Kangarilla.

Kersbrook won the reserves game by 17 goals to 1.

Kersbrook won the A Grade game 32 goals to 7. (17 goals to 3 goals at half time) Kangarilla did have a reasonable 3rd quarter and up until 16 minutes into the last quarter, where it was about 4 goals to Kersbrook's 10 goals for a 45 minute period; but then Kersbrook slammed on about 7 goals in the last 10 minutes to blow the result out beyond 25 goals.

Daniel Ebert dominated for Kersbrook. Lees kicked about 8 goals, six in the first half. He got a couple of easy ones over the top late in the game. But by then he had already done enough to suggest he will have a big year again.

Kangarilla had 10 blokes playing A Grade for the first time with 16 players under the age of 22. Just hope they stick around for a few years to help the club develop a competitive team.

Some good games this round. Wouldnt be surprised if there's a few upsets especially in div 1.

Results from Round 2
April 18th
DIV 1
Mt Lofty beat Ironbank by 51 (amended)
Uraidla beat Blackwood by 15
Torrens Valley d Onka Valley by 58
Echunga d Mt Barker by 85
Hahndorf d Lobethal by 56

DIV 2
Birdwood d Meadows by 11
NairneBremer d SedanCambrai by 137
Bridgewater d Kangarilla by 59
Kersbrook d Macclesfield by 60

Interesting game at Blackwood - more goals kicked in the Newcastle/Sydney A League game (7) than there were at Blackwood (6). Uraidla won despite not scoring a goal in the second half. Blackwood scored the only goal of the second half, in the 3rd qtr, with neither team kicking a goal in the last qtr. Uraidla won 4 goals to 2.

Apparently a very fiery encounter at Lobethal. Several blues broke out throughout the game. Few off with the blood rule & there might be a few reports coming out of it. Lobethal actually led at quarter time 2-2 to 1-3. For the next 3 quarters Hahndorf kept Lobethal goalless as they smashed Lobethal kicking 9-9 to 2 behinds.

Perennial top side Mt Barker copped their 2nd loss in a row, in a drubbing at the hands of Echunga. Doesn't get any easier for the Barkeroos with a game against the revitalised Hahndorf this week. Should be a massive game for Mt Barker to try & get their season back on track.

Kangarilla suffered the lack of key forwards, failing to turn many inside 50's into goals. Bridgewater had too much polish going forward. Kangy were in the contest for much of the game; at half time they were only 24 points down. Still only 29 points at 3/4 time. Bridgewater broke it open in the latter part of the final qtr to push the deficit out to 59 points. Good crowd at Kangy, provided plenty of atmosphere.

Appears to be a big divide between the top 3 in DIV 2 - Kersbrook, Bridgewater & Nairne-Bremer and the rest. The first meeting between 2 of the top 3 will be on May 2nd in Round 4 when Nairne-Bremer hosts Kersbrook.

By the way I was incorrect with the R2 Ironbank/Mt Lofty result. Mt Lofty thrashed Ironbank by 51 points

Mt Lofty 19-19-133 d Ironbank 12-10-82

No worries Milang. Appreciate you having a go at tipping each week. Hopefully over time, more Hills League followers contribute to the forum.

Kangarilla have the bye, so might try & get to another Hills game tomorrow.
