I ask this because I keep hearing Robbo talking about Malthouse on a daily basis, often ironically bemoaning why everyones speculating about Mick.

One day hes asking why carlton is not extending his contract. The next hes asking the opposite

Whos the biggest white anter, who loves the kill ?

Can't think of any specific examples, but I'd guess that Caroline Wilson was the only one with enough influence to do this.

Coaching speculation is a time honoured method of filling airtime and print. Journos with no AFL club experience absolutely love it. It reaches ridiculous levels when a coach has about a year and a half left on his contract and the likes of Hutchy,Barrett or Ralph ( Christ...shakes head) relentlessly push the idiotic notion that they must be either extended or summarily fired. The saddest part is that too many clubs have bowed to media pressure and blown hundreds of thousands of dollars paying out a bloke who's contract was foolishly extended.

Hasn't Rucci got a couple of notches on his belt over in Adelaide? As in, 2 Crows coaches and at least 1 Power coach?

We on the eastern side of the currently probably can't even comprehend what it is to be truly white anted by the head journo in a one-paper, two-team, footy-mad city.

So much this - Malthouse at the moment is giving us a great example. He still has 18 games left on his contract. Why is there this insistence from some journos that he must be resigned now, and if he isn't then he's clearly going to be fired?

This isn't how contracts work in any other walk of life.

The question should probably be are there any jounos left who are not white anters

Rohan Connolly is fantastic.

Doesn't go for the sensationalist mud slinging s**t, although a passionate Essendon supporter he has no bias when on air or in print and has a genuine love for the game. He often talks and writes a lot about the game's evolution and has also written several great analytical pieces on almost every club over the last few years. Also very good in the post-match pressers, never asks idiotic questions and obviously has a good rapport with most coaches.

Hutchinson. If he doesn't like a coach, he makes it clear quickly and continually............

I really like him these days, particularly the off beat segments on SEN

So, to do the maths. Average contract three years, so half the time is fair game.
At any time half the clubs are travelling worse than expected, so theres on average 4.5 coaches in the zone.

Just pick the one you like least ant there you go

Then we have clarko the premiership coach who had the announcemect tw years runninig he was practically signed with another club after the grand final

Dont they know hes got a short fuse ?

It seems like he genuinely cares about the game and the world around him. His tweets are very good.

Yet he's as big a dud as anyone outside Mark Maclure with his flip-flopping on a weekly basis depending on the latest result.

Not so much Rucci these days its more Jesper Fjelstad that writes so much made up crap he actually brings Rucci down.

Think it was last year or year before, heck may have been longer Jesper Fjelstad wrote a controversial article about Port and the SANFL and AFL he pissed all three of them off, and was forced to write an "apology" article the week after - which wasn't much better.

I'd love to know where some of these Journos get their sports reporting experience from.

Caro, Hutchy and Barrett - all of them are addicted to the big story, whether true or not. If nothing's happening, why not make it up? They're the sort of journos who make a prediction that a coach is leaving or being sacked, wait 10 years till it happens and then claim some sort of clairvoyant genius powers.

"Sources indicate" and "it is understood" are pretty much used as licences to write whatever they want.
