Hey all just an opinion.

Its well know lesser eastern sydney fans (it seems to be most of them and the club itself) would be happy to drop off the draft and just get their kids from the academy.

With the kids starting to come through now, and to boost our own home grown qouta, would you be happy to drop from the draft and only bring in kids from the academies (or trades obviously)?

Not me mate. If the draft was broken down (which is what would need to happen for this to take place) it would be a free for all and the richest clubs would get all the talent. Our Academy would become a meat market and the best talent would go to the highest bidders.

The present system is very good and we are in fact safeguarded with dibs over a prolific region.

Happy how it is.

Right now, I would say no.

The best policy seems to be to pick the best players available. When our academy can consistently produce 2-3 players with AFL potential each year, it might be considered. By then the AFL might take away the 20% discount and Eddie can die with a smile on his face.

You need a deep pool of a wide range of strengths, body types and heights to ensure the club's future needs are fulfilled in coming years. The Academy will produce some good youth, but won't have the depth to ensure the club gets what it needs, so staying in the national draft is absolutely necessary.
