Malthouse sacked - Interim coach John Barker

Champ that was 4 years ago and that was not the list of players that got you to a prelim in 2011. Its funny that you think you can do a Port and turn your fortunes around with a new coach.

Your own board said it needs to gut that list, your best players would not even be at the top 5 players at any other Club which says it all.

Doesnt take away the fact we have a solid group of players and losing 10 goals every game is unacceptable and the right decision was made. We are not even competitive.

I don't think we do.

Murphy, Gibbs, Henderson, Cripps, Menzel, Tuohy, Simpson, Buckley, Docherty, Bell, Walker, Jamison, Thomas, Yarran, Kreuzer are good group of players.

We are badly missing a full forward and center half forward in that group and need to get them. We have no forward line is the problem
FF: Menzel
HF: Thomas Henderson Bell
C: ??????? Cripps ???????
HB: Simpson ??????? Yarran
FB: Docherty Jamison Touhy
Foll: ????? Gibbs Murphy
Int: Buckley Walker Kreuzer

Ok so that might be a few decent players. But there's a few really big concerns (tall forwards aside):

1. Midfielders: Only 3 legit ones there and 1's in his second season in Cripps and should be playing a bit of half forward and a bit midfield.
2. Injuries: they aren't entirely luck. Chronically injured players lose value and should be treated accordingly. Thomas and Kreuzer are almost write offs. Jamison has had heaps of issues the last couple of years. Walker the same.
3. Young players: Docherty, Menzel and Cripps are the only ascending young talents. Without young talents pushing up there isn't improvement. And if you don't improve every year then you get worse. Older players slow down - Jamison, Simpson and Judd are probably 3 good examples from Carlton

Hang on. I dont disagree with the decision to sack MM or the positive impact it will have. But please dont delude yourself in thinking the Blues will rise next year or even the year after. You are 4-5 years away from being a solid top 8 team. If you Carltank well you may get the top draft picks to help you a bit sooner. Maybe.

Western Bulldogs and Saints are well ahead of the Blues in being the better team for the next 4-5 years.

Bring back Ratten, poor guy never should have been sacked.

No problem with sacking Rattan.

Has done really well..when he was senior coach but not good enough with an injury toll where players needed to come in and play to a system but never used it as an excuse.

Malthouse was much worse and uses injuries as an excuse

The problem with Blues supporters is that they believe like yourself you have a solid group of players.
You dont. Saints do. Dogs do. Melbourne may.

Good luck John Barker. Think he won't want to take a senior coaching gig after the next 2/3 of the season. Mick is coaching too many pea heart players that are selfish and wouldn't work hard enough for him.

I watched the Blues very closely last Friday from the stands of Etihad and there were a number of players who just were not interested. New coach won't fix poor attitudes.

All the best to Mick. Enjoy retirement but unfortunately (as a coach) the game has evolved past you. Have nothing but love and respect for the man in particular what he did for West Coast and Collingwood. Not old enough to remember what he did pre West Coast and what happened post Collingwood well I don't want to remember Mick for that.

Henderson is a CHB we need a full forward and CHF. Simpson has a couple of years in him he is light and hardly has had injuries similar to brent havey.

Need key position players in the forward line no doubt as number one priority.

This is probably the only way this was going to end with Carlton and Mick, but fair to say both sides have acted in a very unsavoury manner.

Why mick thought publicly butting heads with management, in the media spotlight was a good idea i'll never know.

As for management, sleazy underhanded tactics as usual, " mick has the full backing of the board until next year "

Trigg is enhancing his CV

He did not want to resign but he wanted out - accusing the CEO of tampering with the draft will do that for you - he committed suicide on SEN this morning

All Carlton needs is:

A few key forwards, a few key defenders, a few midfielders and a coach.

But I will say that today is the first step in achieving this.

The fact that Malthouse was even appointed was symptomatic of what is wrong at Carlton.

You would have thought from the Pagan experience that appointing a messiah type coach, with either an outdated game plan and/or without the players to execute it, would have rung alarm bells. Oh no, not with us.

We are living in the past and we don't learn from our mistakes. We still look for the quick fix and think that by throwing money at a problem solves it. Messiah coaches and messiah players, that's the mentality.

We have come nowhere in the best part of 15 years, still stuck in the 70s/80s. Meanwhile, other clubs are now operating in the 21st century.

To me the club is a rabble from top to bottom and needs a complete shake up. The first thing that should be entrenched in the club is the mentalityy that success is earned these days, not bought.

The good old days have gone Blues. Time to realize that and join everyone else in modern football.

Football media bloodlust claims another victim. I guess their attention will turn to Justin Leppitsch or Rodney Eade now. Lucky both coaches are slightly sheltered from the glare in Queensland.

We'll take Gibbs &/or Hendersen from this unappreciative club.
We'll turn them into the respected players they want to be.

You need 2 or 3 more quality midfielders plus at least 1 good key forward, a legitimate healthy ruckman and some young up and coming depth to cover the retirements. Plus you have no way to get all of that besides the draft. You could swap Henderson/Yarran/Murphy/Gibbs for other older players but then you're robbing Peter to pay Paul just as you did with Betts for Thomas.

It's a mess of a list. If your best 22 has about 10 holes in it you are in trouble and headed for the bottom 4. The teams that make the 8 all at least start with a best 22 with maybe 1 hole at best an some options to cover it.

It's official. Malthouse sacked

Mick Malthouse sacked by Carlton, club meeting called after explosive radio interview

Carlton has sacked coach Mick Malthouse after a meeting between club directors and executives on Tuesday afternoon.

Malthouse spoke on SEN radio on Tuesday morning, claiming his future was out of his hands and that boards sack coaches when they crack under pressure.

On Monday, the club had released a statement to its members saying a decision would be made regarding Malthouse's future in two weeks' time, after the round-10 match against Adelaide and ahead of the club's bye.

But Malthouse's comments on radio appeared to antagonise the Carlton board with executives calling a lunchtime meeting in response to the coach's outburst.

This will tell whether sacking coaches works or is stupid. If the team stand up for Johnny Barker , well and good. Mick was the problem.

If they are a bad as they have been in the past then maybe Mick, was the scapegoat.

I just think a coach can only do so much then its out on the ground where the main stuff starts.

If these players do stand up now , I would like to know if their hands shook with nerves whilst receiving there pay packets under Malthouse.

Because they certainly haven 't earn't any thing much , by the contract, and at least doing what he'd said or asked of them.

But Michael can be an abrasive fellow , maybe he is now old and abrasive .

Its time to go back to TV.

Footy has had enough of you I guess Mick.

We need to see you smiling brother.

Good Luck any way.

Was a man bereft of ideas at the end.

His presser where he eluded to not genetically being a quitter because he old man didn't quit when he was diagnosed with cancer, was a truly WTF moment.

Notwithstanding this, the powerbrokers at Carlton who ultimately appointed him will do their level best to avoid responsibility for this debacle.

To paraphrase old Chinese proverb: Hard to close door on way out with big knife sticking in back!

(or maybe that was an old Apache proverb)
