RESULTS
DIVISION 1
ROUND 6
16th May 2015

Echunga 15-15-105 d Onka Valley 13-10-88
As expected Echunga beat the bottom side, but the 17 point margin goes to show that there is not a huge difference between all ten teams. Onka Valley must be getting close to a win. Remarkably Onkas (364) have actually scored more points in its first six games than top side Uraidla (351). Echunga are holding on to 3rd by a mere 0.32 percent, so they need to keep winning well to stave off the challenge from Hahndorf. Onkas have got Hahndorf this week, so while they are not far from winning their first game, it's unlikely to be in round 7.

Hahndorf 11-14-80 d Blackwood 8-8-56
No goals scored in the first quarter, Blackwood led at half time, then Hahndorf by only 3 points at 3/4 time. Hahndorf slammed on 5-7 to 2-4 in the last quarter to run out winners. Blackwood have been very competitive against the top four teams in 4 of the last 5 games. Thy have lost to Uraidla (by 15 points), Echunga (25), Torrens Valley (32) and Hahndorf by 24. The Woods next 4 games are against Loxton, Onka Valley, Mt Barker & Mt Lofty, so they are in a position to string some wins together. Hahndorf have clearly emerged as a top 4 team, now sitting 4-2 from their 6 games. Blackwood need to win against Lobethal this week to get back in the five.

Ironbank 13-6-84 d Mt Barker 8-12-60
Ironbank opened with a 6 goal first quarter and had a comfortable 5/6 goal advantage throughout the game. They've now won their last two, jumped up to 6th and would have a bit of confidence back to take on the undefeated Uraidla this week. Apart from the first quarter, Mt Barker were very competitive outscoring Ironbank 7-9 to 7-6 for the last three quarters. The Barkeroos have a tough one this week as they travel to Torrens Valley who lost their first game on the weekend.

Uraidla 9-7-61 d Mt Lofty 9-2-56
Close all day and only 2 points in it at 3/4 time and Uraidla held on by 5 points. Lofty went close to causing the upset of the season. Again Uraidla appeared to keep the game bottled up with only 9 goals a piece. In six games they have only conceded an average of 40 points per game. But they are only averaging 9 goals a week themselves. Ironbank have a few decent goalkickers so it will be interesting if they can maintain the 40 point average this week. Mt Lofty have lost their last four and play 2014 premiers Echunga this week. It's interesting to see Mt Lofty struggle so much after dominating 2nd Division last year. The gap between first and second division seems to be getting wider.

Lobethal 17-14-116 d Torrens Valley 14-10-94
As Milang tipped, Lobethal Tigers caused the upset of the round beating the previously undefeated Torrens. The Tigers kept the two big goalkickers fro the Lions - Dale Ellis and Johnny Boras to 5 goals between them. They had been averaging 8 goals a game before Saturday and are equal leaders in the Div 1 goalkicking with 23 each. Lobethal have consolidated themselves as a top 5 team and this win was significant given they had dropped a game against Ironbank last week. Torrens haven't been really putting too many teams away during their unbeaten run so they were vulnerable against an unpredictable team like Lobethal. When on song the Tigers can beat anyone. But as we have seen a few times this year, their best and worst are poles apart. The TV Lions should redeem themselves against Mt Barker while Lobethal has the battle for fifth versus Blackwood this Saturday.

TIPS
Milang (4) - only missed on Ironbank
Scoopar (3) - missed on Ironbank and Lobethal

LADDER after Round 6

Thanks Milang. I've been super busy the last few days and haven't had the chance to add the Div2 results/reviews.

PLUS I'm still recovering from the capitulation by Kangarilla in the second half on Saturday. Looking good, only a goal down and with the momentum - 4-7 to 5-7 at half time............ then Macclesfield 12 goals 7 to Kangarilla 'NIL'. Just Devastating.......

As much as there have been a couple of big margins in the Hills League, these pale compared to the Southern League which had a round from hell on Saturday. Seven games where the lowest margin was Port Noarlunga over Cove by 40 points. That was the close one.
The other six -
Reynella by 97 v Christies Beach
Happy Valley by 113 v Marion... The Valley's first win!
Morphettville Park by 120 v Aldinga
Morphett Vale by 135 v Edwardstown....3rd v 7th!
Flagstaff Hill by 178 v OSB Lions. 31 goals by Flaggies.
Noarlunga by 213 v Hackman. 41 goals by Noarlunga with 29 kicked after half time.

Very tempted to go for Kersbrook as I reckon they might have rested a few last week in preparation for this week. But Bridgewater haven't set a foot wrong yet and deserve to start favourites in the match of the round.

Big news at Kangarilla with Sydney Swans premiership player Jared Crouch playing a one off game this week. Crouch's brother Sam plays for the Double Blues and the Crouch brothers have never played in the same team before. So Jared is heading down to the Adelaide Hills to play with his youngest brother.

No worries Milang. Go with the Away teams rule that applies on footy tips.com when someone doesn't enter their tips. Which for this round is not a bad result. :D

That would be

Echunga
Hahndorf
Uraidla
Mt Barker
Lobethal

Kersbrook - Bye

Kangarilla have a very depleted side this week. Quite a few of their best players unavailable. Just hope they have a decent crack and can minimise the damage.

Wade Hancock, playing for Nairne-Bremer, took two classic hangers v Kangarilla on Saturday. Amazing thing is, it was early in the first quarter and about a minute apart.

Torrens Valley 5.7.37 def Uraidla Districts 3.10.28
Lobethal 7.8.50 def Mt Barker 4.11.35
Hahndorf 17.6.108 def Mt Lofty 11.10.76
Ironbank 13.5.83 def Echunga 10.10.70
Blackwood 8.9.57 def Onka Valley 4.14.38

Good goal kicking was hard to come by on saturday for a few team :p

Just read the posts regarding possible salary cap.

I think it's a good idea. The HFL as well as the Spencer Gulf League up here definitely need it.

Port Football Club in Port Pirie pay some of their top notch players up to a couple of thousand per game. My friend who mainly plays in their seconds and thirds teams gets paid $700 a game - and he is currently in their seconds and thirds teams! Solomontown do the same thing but not as much. It's clubs like Sollie's and Port that pay their players that kill the other clubs like Prop/Risdon. Mind you, that's what happens when some regional clubs have Pokies.

I think some of the Whyalla and Lincoln clubs are the same - reap in the $$ through pokies then over pay their players.

One option would be to ban the payment of players, and only pay them fuel subsidies eg pay for the fuel it costs players to travel to the game but capped at a certain $$ amount

Man, I only just found this thread. My brother plays for echunga so I should let him know!
