That franchise thing

That whole franchise comment by that guy on the doggies board was rubbish. It's a professional sport - at the end of the day all teams/franchises/clubs whatever you want to call them exist under the AFL banner, as well as together creating the AFL. That a new franchise was created does not, in a legal sense, make it any less than any other franchise - the cash hand-outs (which half the clubs in the league get) and the nebulous club culture (which is unavoidable for a new franchise) shouldn't be confused with any legal-status questions. We've been created - we get to sit at the table. And as a club have just as much to gain from us standing on our own two feet as they do, because we are also part of the AFL.

Treating the AFL as some divorced entity from the clubs is misleading and unhelpful

We have been around for over 100 years, and had to fight to move from the VFA to the VFL mainly because we were a western suburbs team. They couldn't stop us after we as the VFA premiers played for the Victorian championship against the VFL premiers (Essendon) and beat them. It was a privilege not a right to be admitted to the competition. Even Norf were held out for years by Essendon because they were a threat. Once In the competition we had to build our teams through zones, which took us 29 years before we won a premiership. Whereas they have gifted you success by the draft which is to attract supporters, it is a cynical exercise in buying fans and their money, and has been felt the most by clubs like the Bulldogs, losing Ward, Griffin and the chance to rebuild.

Your anger at a first year player choosing to come home seems out of proportion to what we feel.

Cry me a freak'n river mate. We are having an absolute ripping time supporting our boys, while you stew in your bile and angst. Your choice, but don't come in here looking to drag us down. You are wasting your time :)
