The traditional black back of St Kilda’s tri-colour guernsey will be turned purple in a special jumper to be worn against Richmond for Maddie’s Match in round 16.

The limited edition guernsey was unveiled today in an initiative to raise awareness and funds for Maddie Riewoldt’s Vision (MRV), with all proceeds from the sale to be donated to the cause.

It was announced last month that the Saints and Tigers would go head-to-head in a commemorative match to honour Nick Riewoldt’s late sister and Jack Riewoldt’s late cousin Maddie, who passed away earlier this year battling the rare blood disorder Aplastic Anaemia.

MRV has been established to help adolescents and young adults suffering from Bone Marrow Failure Syndromes through research and providing support into treatments, prevention and with an aim to finding a cure.

The colour purple is a main feature of the design to honour Maddie’s favourite colour and is highlighted on the back of the guernsey along with the hashtag #FightLikeMaddie.

Emblazoned on the front of the guernsey is the MRV logo which represents the charity’s acronym in the shape of an elephant, Maddie’s favourite animal.

Supporters of both teams are encouraged to wear a touch of purple to the game with #FightLikeMaddie t-shirts also on sale from today.

The Maddie’s Match guernsey and merchandise will be available for pre order at shop.saints.com.au . It will also be available for purchase at Etihad Stadium for Maddie’s Match in round 16 from Saints Locker outlets inside gatesfive and seven, and on the footbridge.

The purple back with the yellow sponsor looks awesome! It's a nice way to pay tribute to Maddie and her vision.
Is the 'M' on the front also meant to be an elephant?
Yep, this is from the Saints website:

This one is for a good cause, but if the footy public is softened up to the idea of constantly changing jumpers it's a slippery slope towards bigger/more spnsorship signage etc. I love jumper designs or I wouldn't be on this board, but there's something to be said for consistency. It'd be a pity if we end up in the same position as the NRL or the WAFL.

As long as there's a reason for them to have a one-off, which Richmond and St Kilda both have good ones, then I couldn't care less, but if it's like the NRL and they're wearing their superhero stuff, then that's not cool.

Awesome idea badly executed. Broken has it down, that's EXACTLY what they should be wearing

They showed Richmond's guernsey on The Footy Show last night. They didn't show the back so I'm not sure if it has #FightLikeMaddie on the back or not... we'll have to wait for the official photos.
