THE future of Western Bulldogs best and fairest Tom Liberatore is at flashpoint after another club sanction, stemming from a multi-day period of partying.

Liberatore, who suffered a season-ending ACL injury during the NAB Challenge, was due to head to Europe with non-Bulldogs friends.

However, the club intervened after he missed compulsory club appointments, a result of excessive socialising three weeks ago.

On Wednesday night, Channel Nine revealed the Bulldogs instead diverted him to Thailand, a country it feels can better accommodate his rehabilitation for the knee injury.

It isn’t the first time Liberatore has found trouble for off-field indiscretions.

In 2012, he was given an AFL strike and a four-match club imposed ban after being found in possession of an illicit substance.

The 23-year-old was this year added to the leadership group and in May signed a contract extension, tying him to the club to the end of 2018.

Liberatore was the League’s No.1 tackler and clearance player last season.

When Liberatore signed his contract extension, Bulldogs list manager Jason McCartney praised the midfielder's work ethic and competitiveness.

"Tom is an incredibly talented young player, and is such a crucial part of our midfield and team in general," McCartney said.

"What we're most encouraged by however, is that we believe Tom ... can take his game to new heights with his work-ethic, ultra-competitive nature and general ability."

Liberatore has played 77 matches for the club his father, Tony, represented on 283 occasions.

Good decision to divert him, no one ever gets up to anything dodgy in Thailand :$:$:$:$

They should take Campbell Brown as a minder.

If they're letting him go abroad mid season given his injury, what's it their ******* business where he goes?

I'm not usually on the players' side when it comes to the debating of late but this is bullshit.

Hmmmm. Seems more to this than meets the eye.

So he's going to Europe with his mates. All good. Then he stuffs up his rehab, so the club rightly decide to take some action. So they send him to Thailand? How does that work? Do his mates have to go there, too? Does he have to go on his own, with a club chaperone?

It almost sounds like the mates may be some part of the problem (surprise!), and the club is trying to keep him away from them.

Why do the Bulldogs have a right to divert his trip if they've given him 'permission' to leave? If Libba wants to slow down his process or this or that, that's his own call. What do the Bulldogs have to do with this?

Without knowing the full story it looks like they're micro-managing excessively.

Missed a club appointment with a sore tummy after eating too many cheezels at a Birthday party. Nothing to see here guys.

So the Doggies are sending him to a fat farm in Thailand.

All those Cheezels must have put too make weight on his knee impeding the recovery.

Good to know.

How can Thailand "better accommodate his rehabilitation for the knee injury"??????
That's where a huge chunk of the steroids that are seized by customs are imported from.

It's a fantastic place to go to get on the gear for a month, if you have cash nobody will get in the way. If you get a phone call from your contact at the airport that a ASADA suit has come to collect some pee, you're okay because it takes a day to get to you and the HGH will be flushed out by then.

Do you really think in the current climate any club would be thinking along those lines?

Of course not.
Perhaps he was planning to go to Greece and they decided it wouldn't be a good move right now and asked him to change to Thailand, then a reporter has beaten up the story.

Of course we can direct him on what he does whilst under our employ. it is not off season, he is being paid by us, so has responsibility to do what the club tell him. The alternative to what we have offered him would be to come in to Whitten Oval everyday.
