Star Hawthorn forward Jarryd Roughead is out of football indefinitely after having a melanoma removed from his lip on Wednesday.

Roughead had recently spotted a lesion on his lip which had not cleared up. He informed the club's doctors late last week. He was then advised to see a skin specialist. Test results came back positive for a melanoma on Tuesday.

Roughead, 28, a triple-premiership player with the Hawks is waiting for the results of further pathology tests to determine if any further action needs to be taken.
Poor bloke, I hope they've got it early and he makes a full recovery.

Always liked Roughy, seems like one of the AFL most friendliest blokes

(Edited due to too many uses of the word like)

Wow, that's a shock.

Get well soon mate.

All the best for a speedy recovery Roughy. As has been said hopefully it is caught early and that is the end of it.

Hopefully it will turn out to be relatively minor. I had a melanoma removed from my neck a few years ago and was back at work the next day. Fingers crossed he managed to catch it early.

Hope it is all OK for him. Best KPF in the AFL IMHO. Hope he is cleared and back on the park soon.

Wow. Get well soon Roughy. One of footy's nicer blokes. Actually saw him at a post office a couple of years ago, top bloke.

+1 for hoping it's nothing serious. Had one taken out of my leg and was fine the next day. I hope him taking time out is purely a precaution and not indicative that it has spread.

How did you come to notice it? Did you have a skin check or did you spot it yourself?

I'm interested, as I work a lot in the desert in the sun. I have checks but I'm always worried not enough of them

True champion is the Rough.

I don't have many moles or freckles, but I did notice that there was one on my leg which was pitch black when the others were brown. It was barely 1mm wide. I get it checked every 6months/1 year but not just for that, doctor usually tells me to keep an eye on one if it looks suss. If your doc hasn't mentioned anything you're fine I imagine!
