Recording from a Set Top Box

I have bought a set top box for the spare room tv. To record I need an external hard drive.
Just wondering what is the best sort to get and how much space I would need.

Need about 4.5-5gb per hour of HD TV. Bout 3 for SD.

Get a 2TB drive. Half for recording tv and the other half put some movies on it
