Lions lose key forward Jono Freeman to injury

THE BRISBANE Lions have lost another young key forward to injury with Jono Freeman set to miss most of the season with an ankle issue.

The 21-year-old hadn't played this year because of a glute injury but was nearing his NEAFL return.

However, he will consult a specialist this Wednesday after injuring ligaments in his ankle at training on Tuesday when he stepped on someone's foot.

Staker posted a photo on twitter than included Freeman and he looks freaking massive. Looks almost as big as Mumford.

Sorry, I'm a visual type of a person. Any chance someone can post the pic?

Cant wait for him to get back on the park. I reckon hes gonna be massive for the club and also end up our number 1 forward in the next couple years.

When we beat Collingwood in the 2021 Grand Final with Freeman kicking a bag, Andrews a brick wall down back and Keays dominating the midfield Eddie McGuire is gonna flip out.

No doubt about it. I can already see the shade of purple he'll be after the game. It will Be an amazing sight. :) ;)

Also, is it my imagination, or does Dawson look really tall here? Freeman and Stakes are both in the high 190s. Possibly the putting green is steeply sloped, but Dawson looks right in their height ballpark. I wonder if he's grown a little.

that spot of different green he's standing on is a raised obstacle, that would be what is giving him his extra height, probably another 8-10cm.

Reserves Wrap - Sydney Uni - 19/07/2015 (Shane Woewodin’s comments)

Second game back for Jono. He had more game time, played three quarters this week. He didn’t impact the game too much. He took one grab early which was fantastic and scored with that. That was the Jono Freeman of old – crashing packs. Needs to work harder as a key forward in offence and defence and continue to build on his match fitness so he can impact more games in the back half of the year.

Reserves Wrap - GWS - 25/07/2015 (Shane Woewodin’s comments)

Third game back for Jono. He played as a key forward in the first quarter. Because we played against GWS we felt he like he would have be starved a fair bit of opportunity and work in the game so we pushed him back for the remainder three quarters. He played as a key defender on the likes of Jon Paton and McCarthy and these types, so a good learning curve to see how these good forwards at other clubs work. He had a lot of work to do on hit, didn’t feel like he engaged his opponent enough as a defender but it was a good learning curve.

I liked his game. Rusty at set shots, but worked hard enough for a three or four goal return when he's sharper.
Yeah I thought the same. Worked hard enough to give himself some opportunities. Now he just needs to make the most of them.

Took his opportunities but watching at the game I thought he's got a lot of work to do on his fitness and second efforts. Also his leads weren't great a lot of the time and didn't come naturally for him, got told where to go a few times by mcguane.

Still having said that he managed a bunch of shots on goal so hopefully the rest of it progresses and he doesn't lose that ability to seemingly pop up with chances

Player Reviews: Part Seven

Another Lion injured for the majority of 2015, Jonathan Freeman made a significant impression when he finally returned to the senior side in Round 18 against Geelong. Kicking seven goals in 6 matches (including a three goal haul against Carlton), the Lions Academy product should combine with Close and McStay in 2016 to bolster the team’s forward line.
