It's the West Adelaide bench. That's Jack Oatey (West's coach at the time) doing the splits.
The offending goalpost was chopped down later that night by some West Adelaide players (including Neil Kerley) who jumped the fence into Adelaide Oval. It ended up on the BBQ at the West Adelaide wake and what was left of it after that was hung in either West's clubrooms or behind the bar in a pub in West's district. Sorry, can't remember the exact location. A classic SANFL legend though.

The picture of Bernie Smith's reaction when he was at home and he'd been informed of his 1952 Brownlow win. It might have been staged but it was a beauty. Couldn't find it though.
 
even better is a screengrab from the TV footage - as Smith goes to mark, a flash bulb goes off right behind the ball. Amazing
That flash resulted in that very photo you quoted.

krakeour winning mark of the year instead of walker here will go down as one of humanity's great ruses. just let jezza pick MOTY till he's to senile to even realise which sport he's a legend of.

this was truly one of all-time greats.
