Tomic had a loss to JP Smith 6-3 7-5, seems like a bit of a tank job. In more positive news Ebden qualified for Newport and he will face Sam Querrey. Philippoussis also playing doubles with Ryan Harrison, he lost in the first round of qualifying of singles 7-6 7-6 to Eric Quigley.

JP Smith had a comfortable win over Jared Donaldson 6-3 6-1, that side of the draw has really opened up with Isner and Tomic losing early. He has a winnable quarter final match against Tatsuma Ito. Harrison Phillipoussis won their first round doubles match against Ito Lacko 6-3 6-4 and will face the 2nd seeds Krajicek Ram next.

Smith in the semis with a win over Ito and now plays Ram for a spot in the final. That sentence must be wrong. Good on him but he's pretty much a mug of a player.

Bernie defends his title in 3 sets. I only saw the last game, but commentators were talking about a back issue that tomic had and required a medical time out that made mannarino upset.

Just watched the match. Pepsi, he had a long point on break point which he ended up winning then collapsed to the ground which was apparently back pain. It was a bit strange but really Tomic had the momentum so don't know what Adrian is complaining about even if it looks bizarre.

Well Done to Bernie, he got the job done in his wacky fashion. Everyone needs to do themselves a favour and watch Bernie's footwork for an entire match and make yourself wonder how possibly a professional tennis player could get away with that. He's had a whole lot drama but he's having a reasonable year...

Bernie is 20-6 on hard court this year. Losses to Berdych x 2, Ferrer, Nishikori, Muller and Young. Pretty consistent really.
Definitely his most consistent year on tour, even with some injury niggles throughout the year. Still think he needs to do a lot more work on the physical side of his game and if he is still drinking and parting til all hours, not sure he is fully dedicated to the sport. He may never be.

I forgot about that loss to Young. Scrap that, he's had a terrible year

Duckworth managed to get a set off Nishikori but went down. Hewitt lost in 3 to Lopez. But Groth had a nice 6-4 6-3 win over Troicki. Plays Lopez next.

Hewitt was a set and a break up in his, no surprise he lost from there, a Hewitt-Groth R3 would of been nice for a QF spot in a 500 event.

Groth is a very surprising win, if he can back it up against Lopez I would be very impressed.

Duckworth needs to pull off a win in a match like that now to take that next step, the result is fine according to expectations though.

Tomic lost to Steve Johnson in 3 but I feel like it is not worth even mentioning because he was in full troll mode apparently.

Murray knocked out by Gabashvilli

A couple of days ago but I saw Hewitt and Groth lost first round in the doubles. They played a decent team but you'd like to see some form from them heading towards the DC semi final when in all likelihood it will be the doubles that decides the tie.

Were you at the match? It wasn't streamed.

Just reports from others that were there on the tennis forums who were there. Tomic wasn't that bad, the other bloke was playing very well.

He is actually having a very good season

Groth and kokkanksis lost this morning. Haven't been sold of Kokkanksis' form but it hasn't been easy for him. Groth losing a set 6-1 to the world's best returner Steve Johnson....
