Just watched that Ch 7 Sunday Night programme and they had a segment on Tessa James the daughter of former Richmond player Steven James. I couldn't remember this guy but when I checked him out he kicked 49 goals in his first season which by my accounts is the 10th best debut season for goals. He seemed to go down hill a bit after that as he never kicked a goal in his last 17 games. Does anyone know what the story was with this guy? Another Adrian McAdam???

Looked like a future champion early on. Not sure what happened, ended up a bit of a nondescript player in the backline. Can remember him kicking a mammoth goal with a wet ball against Footscray in one of his early games and thinking we're going to lose, but it's OK 'cos this guy will be a superstar.

A mate (Richmond supporter) played against him a few years after his VFL career ended and reckons James was an angry unit who tried to clean him up for no good reason. Not happy to this day!

Essendon's percentage is 75.53% with games to come against AD (h), GC (a), RI, CO.

Essendon's worst end-of-year percentages:
64.20% (1918), 70.29% (1915), 74.00% (1907), 75.71% (1971), 77.08% (1933), 78.61% (1903)

Collingwood's two wooden spoons in 1976 and 1999 were coached by their previous premiership captain: Murray Weideman (1958) and Tony Shaw (1990).

Essendon's percentage now down to 71.78%, should easily slot in as 5th worst in their history if not 3rd worst.

Depends if they can defeat Gold Coast away this weekend.

There have been three occasions where both teams have had the same number of behinds at the end of each quarter, and it took 103 seasons for the first instance to occur.

Matthew Egan at 32y43d will be the youngest AFL coach since Jade Rawlings (also a caretaker) in 2009.

Egan will also be first coach to have made his playing debut in the Noughties as well as being the first coach born in both the '80's and 1983.

What about the greatest losing margin in last game as a player? I remember Anthony Stevens being on the end of a 113 point loss against Brisbane Lions in 2004. There must be other unfortunate players who suffered a bigger loss in their final game.
I know this is technically a stats question but I figured the table will look better in this thread so as to complement the previous table.

A few careers ended by the 165 & 161 point defeats.

Poor old Dean Bailey mentioned in both lists.

Stevens ranked =137th.

241 players ended their careers with a 100+ defeat, excluding 24 current Essendon players (last Saturday's 22 + Watson & Kavanagh) and 4 currently-listed players from other clubs. For 28 players, it was their only career game.

Thanks for the list Ron. I'm not sure how tricky it is for you to take into account and locate all the players with 1,2,3,4 games etc., but you've done well to assemble the table in less than half an hour from me asking the question.

So Geelong's recent era 186 and 157, along with the Gold Coast 150 didn't end any careers? Well, apart from Dean Bailey as coach of the Dees i guess.

When the final siren sounded last night with scores level in the Geelong vs. St Kilda game, it was the first time ever that the Cats and Saints had played a draw - an astonishing 119 years.

There now only remains one fixture between the 8 foundation teams (Fitzroy played ties against the other 7 founding teams at least once in its 100-year tenure) that has not been drawn and this is Geelong vs. Sydney Swans.

How about poor Wal Heron - in his only game in 1899 playing in a team that went down 23.24-162 to 0.1-1?
