Dear Thuggee 2016

God I hate the SC offseason. Please build your team around this structure and do not pick Buddy, Jordan Lewis , Joel Selwood or Tom McDonald.
Burnmen. All of them.

DEF: Shaw, Yeo, Malceski, Smith, rookie, rookie (rookie, rookie)
MID: GAJ, Rockliff, Sloane, Wines, Libba, Prestia, Callum Mills, rookie (rookie, rookie, rookie)
RUD: Goldstud, Looney/Smith (whoever ends up at the Swans) (rookie)
FWD: Deledio, Wingard, Bont(if MD/FWD), Heeney, Menzel, Petracca (The Great James Rose, rookie)

Is there any chance that Stef Martin could get a M/R status like Blitz? Probably very unlikely but wouldn't it be sweet late in the year to have on of those two as M9/R3, then use the other rookie spots for Fwd and Back swingsets.
That's entirely based on Martin just getting bulk possession. If I recall correctly he did actually attend some stoppages as a rover with Luey rucking in '14.
I can dream, pls don't take this hope away from me.

Nice effort, some questions/thoughts
  • Thinking Shaw will be overvalued, he's had such a great year the only way is down
  • Now the Bullies are such a good team will Libba's share of the ball/possession numbers be down on previous years
  • Goldy will be soooo expensive - unless his draw is amazing I wouldn't touch him as a starter next year
  • Can Wingard keep kicking 3 or 4 per game? Might he play in the midfield some of the time? Still prefer stacking the forward line with mids with DPP. Not saying he's a bad pick, just unsure about what he will be.

I agree with most of these points, especially the Wingard one. He has been dominant in the 9 weeks since the bye, yet he's only averaged a touch over 100 with a high score of 122. His ceiling just isn't that high. If you were to think he'd dominate almost every game then he may be worth it, but I feel like he's one you'll always be able to pick up cheaper at some stage in the year

EDIT: I think Libba will still be worth btw at the price he is going to be. Don't forget just how much of a beast he was last year. He did always go better when Griffen was in the side too, as he would take the tag. I'm not sure that a slightly stronger midfield group will impact him too drastically, not to the point where he isn't worth getting at whatever cheap price he is going to be

Shaw - will be expensive but if the defenders are like anything that were on offer at the start of this year then I'd have to look at starting him regardless. However, if say for example Patful and Davis are both in doubt for Round 1 then I'd consider leaving him out.

Libba - if he does a full preseason and is around the 450k mark he is a lock for me.

Goldy - I'll wait and see how much he is

Wingard - My main concern with Wingard is that Port land Charlie Dixon, making Chad less of a forward target.

I'm pretty bullish about Heeney next year, he will eventually play on the ball full time but it will be managed in stages.

Only 6 month more months to go :p

Will Libba really be that cheap? I thought the discount he'd get from missing the year would put him closer to 500k. Agree at 450 he would be a serious bargain and you would be mad not to strongly consider.
He was around 590k at the start of this year. I'm not sure how much the injury discount is (I'm not familiar with the formula) but I had read other posters say he'd be around the 430k mark....
TBH even if he was low 500s I'd still consider him.

make or break backline there mate.
All bar Shaw have been let downs this year.
Fair enough Yeo might slot into the midfield if there defenders come back, but it's a worry when the coach plays you as a Mr Fix it.

Hoping Gray, Griffen & Bontempelli are positioned where i think they should be i.e where they are in my team. If Gray and Bont are just mids there won't be many appealing premium forwards. For that reason I expect Deledio & Wingard to be locks for many heading into next season

No Sloane? Will end the year priced around 107-109 ppg. And Crows appear to be a team on the rise.

A few thoughts, nothing new but worth thinking about:
  • With Ablett, Rocky, Sloane, Libba discounted should resist getting sucked in by midpriced mids even if some look mighty tempting. Might be room for 1 maybe
  • Watch the roles of the discounted defenders very carefully in preseason
  • The draw is important in selection but especially for rucks
  • Still a lottery if you pick a 4th ruck playing as a forward. Will be interesting to see which rucks get the 2nd position
  • Be careful selecting last years break out players - eg Bonts or Neale

I think you'll find Heeney and Menzel might end up being more than you're expecting. You look fairly cheap around the ground but that's a very expensive looking forward line

Bontempelli probably won't be a forward. He, Wallis and Dahlhaus have attended the most centre bounces for us IIRC. I'll still be picking him as a mid.

You should be hoping and praying that he does.
Compo pick worth more than what he is at this stage

Yes, compo pick would be a good one, but that would leave us without a ruckman that would need to be replaced. Warnock will get delisted and Wood isn't exactly elite.
