For Heavens sake i wish Houston would do something during the FA period instead of standing to the side and watching the Colts get better.

The Texans went without an offensive coordinator last season with head coach Bill O’Brien overseeing the team’s offense, but they’ll take a different approach in 2015.

O’Brien announced Monday that George Godsey will make the move from quarterbacks coach to offensive coordinator. Godsey first worked with O’Brien when O’Brien was an assistant at Georgia Tech and Godsey was one of the team’s quarterbacks. They worked together again in New England in 2011 and Godsey remained with the Patriots through the 2013 season.

“I think the players respect the type of teacher that he is,” O’Brien said of Godsey, via Tania Ganguli of ESPN.com.

There won’t be a replacement at quarterbacks coach on this year’s staff as the Texans feel that Godsey, O’Brien and the rest of the team’s offensive coaching staff can take care of any responsibilities that might normally fall to that position. This year, that will include making the call about whether Brian Hoyer or Ryan Mallett is the starter.

NFL.com's Lance Zierlein suggests the Texans' quarterback battle "might be over sooner than you think."

A Houston-area media member, Zierlein is convinced Brian Hoyer will be the Week 1 starter. Zierlein later cited Ryan Mallett's lack of accuracy as his likely downfall. Texans fans are oddly obsessed with Mallett getting the nod, but Mallett has been outplayed by Hoyer since the early spring, and was traded away by Bill Belichick for a conditional seventh-round pick last year. We still anticipate both sub-par quarterbacks making 2015 starts.

The Texans could revisit talks with free agent RB Pierre Thomas.

Thomas turned down a veteran-minimum deal, but could still be signed if Houston increases their offer. The Texans are prepared to move forward with Chris Polk, Alfred Blue, Jonathan Grimes, and Kenny Hilliard competing for early-season carries. Thomas is open to playing for less than $2 million.

Texans always find a way to shoot themselves in the foot....Chris Polk FML...give Ray Rice a second chance and allow him to make amends.

John Harris of the Texans' official website reports Garrett Graham has been "completely dominating" linebackers and safeties in pass drills at training camp.

"It’s as if he’s playing pitch and catch with the quarterbacks with how open he gets himself downfield," Harris wrote. Graham is a small-ish, finesse player at 6'3/243 who's more of an off-the-line, "move" tight end. He was only targeted 26 times across 566 snaps last season. The tight end was a non-existent part of coach Bill O'Brien's pass offense last season. Graham isn't yet on the redraft map.

Free agent Pierre Thomas reportedly turned down a $870,000 contract offer from the Texans last week.

Thomas is betting on Alfred Blue, Jonathan Grimes and Chris Polk failing to impress over the next couple weeks. At that point, the Texans could revisit talks and pay Thomas a little more than the veteran minimum. It's a risky stance for a 30-year-old back who hasn't garnered much interest since the Saints released him in March.

Ryan Mallett completed 10-of-11 passes for 90 yards and rushed once for three yards in the Texans' preseason opener against the 49ers.

Mallett worked in relief of Brian Hoyer, who was rested after just one possession. The Texans' treatment of Hoyer suggests he remains the clear frontrunner in the quarterback battle. Mallett stated his case, however, racking up high-percentage completions and continuing to exhibit command of the offense.

ESPN Texans reporter Tania Ganguli said WR Cecil Shorts has been a "standout" in practice.

Shorts caught a 58-yard bomb for a touchdown in the preseason opener. He played exclusively with the first team in that contest and appears to be comfortably in the lead for the No. 2 wide receiver spot opposite DeAndre Hopkins. Despite his placing on the depth chart, the Texans should be one of the least voluminous passing attacks in the league. He is unlikely to see enough targets to make a splash in standard leagues.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Texans have named Brian Hoyer as their starting quarterback.

Coach Bill O'Brien declined to name a starter on Sunday, saying he did not have a timetable for a decision. As it turns out, NFL coaches lie. Hoyer has completed 9-of-15 passes for 119 yards and a touchdown this preseason, though most of that yardage came on one big play to Cecil Shorts in the opening game. His play has been shaky, but Ryan Mallett did nothing to apply pressure in the battle. Hoyer will open the season as the starter, but it would not be shocking if Mallett sees starts this year as well.

Ryan Mallett missed Thursday's practice because he overslept.

It's hard to fathom for a 27-year-old man who was in pursuit of the Texans' starting job as recently as three days ago. The Texans gave Mallett a chance to make something of his career after three years in the Patriots backup wilderness, and he's responded in remarkably limp fashion. The Browns have a strong case, as well, but you could argue Houston has the worst quarterback situation in the NFL.

haha...

-----

Ryan Mallett returned to Texans practice Friday after oversleeping on Thursday, and was the third quarterback through practice drills.

Coach Bill O'Brien did insist after the session that Mallett remains second on the depth chart behind Brian Hoyer. "The situation with Ryan not being at practice that's between Ryan and I," O'Brien said. "Some things are left within the team." Mallett should open the season carrying the clipboard for Hoyer.

The Texans are sticking with Ryan Mallett at quarterback.

Mallett has played as poorly as a quarterback can play this season, but coach Bill O'Brien knows Brian Hoyer offers similarly little hope. Still, a mid-game benching for Mallett seems more likely than not against the Colts on Thursday. Mallett simply has zero feel for what an NFL quarterback is supposed to do. Both Hoyer and Mallett are turnover machines, but Hoyer has a (slightly) better overall game.

Coach Bill O'Brien announced Friday that the Texans will move forward with Brian Hoyer as their starting quarterback.

A week too late, of course. Ryan Mallett was so bad that he isn't even worth discussing in this space. Hoyer has at least shown signs of being able to generate offense, compiling a 5:2 TD-to-INT ratio through three appearances (one start) while completing over 62 percent of his throws. He gives the Texans their best chance to get the ball consistently to DeAndre Hopkins, which at this stage is Houston's lone means of passing offense. Hoyer should be scooped up in two-quarterback leagues with Jacksonville, Miami, and Tennessee's weak defenses next up on the schedule before a Week 9 bye.

Cost us the game Bill. Hoyer did well, considering we also had Washington and Shorts out.....and ignoring his brain fart with that last throw.
Really seems like O'Brien is clueless. He told both QBs in pre-season Hoyer would be the guy, but on a short leash. Then benches him after a couple games and starts Mallett....the guy who who had a cry he didnt get starter and promptly overslept his first team meeting....and then he benches Mallett after a game and says he doesnt know who will start....then he declares Hoyer will start.....and in a couple weeks will bench Hoyer and start Mallett again.

O'Brien preached pre season that the QB job would go to the guy who was the most consistent during camp. He placed particular emphasis on consistency. So after all that decides to go with Hoyer in the opener. Three quarters into the first game he benches him!! Ke wasn't even that bad. In fact those three quarters he's better than Mallett is starting the next four farking games! Mallett was benched after three awful quarters v Falcons. Yet still was the starter against the Colts. Why?

The specifics you mentioned even worse. He's clearly clueless. Worst thing to do is constantly chop/change the starting QB, especially how regularly he's done it. And to top it all off, the Texans strong-suit, the D, and Watt, have been getting worse under his leadership. Unfortunately, there's nothing the org can do. They have to wait till end of season, hire a new HC and let him draft his QB.

Yeah Crennel is too conservative and seems to lack ideas. HAsn't been able to solve problem with Watt being double/triple teamed. Move him around, use more four man fronts, move Clowney next to or behind Watt. Do something ffs! Also i'm not an expert, but do D's usually have so many problems with subs?So many times they line up with 10 men, think it happened against the Colts and had to call a TO. Disorganised, Wilfork and Moore have been disappointing, LBs lack agility, CBs ....blah blah blah...
