It allows us to trade out a highly regarded player in the next couple of years for another top draft choice whilst sitting top 4.

Yeah so many mids. Might not need Griffen in a year. Who would be in line for a trade? Coniglio? Palmer? Adam Kennedy?Scully? Barrett? Haven't even seen Ahearn or Pickett yet

Jacob Hopper Matt Kennedy, Ryan Griffen, Callan Ward, Dylan Shiel, Stephen Coniglio, Lachie Whitfield, Josh Kelly, Tom Scully, Toby Greene, Rhys Palmer, Jack Steele, Jake Barrett, Paul Ahern, Jarrod Pickett, Adam Kennedy.

It will be a trade for better opportunity imo not a 'shop' of players

We will know by the end of the year by who can't get a game

A question about the rookie draft...

Is the same bidding process in the main draft available in the rookie draft? If someone else bids on Tiziani for example, before we get to pick, can we match that bid and rookie list him ourselves?

It will be the "treloar" factor.
Clubs making plays at our gun players will do so whether we like it or not.
So when they come knocking for a player they want we will deal hard and get a good draft pick in exchange.
This will make sure our list remains topped up for the next 6/7 years at least and we will occassionly lose a good quality player in leau of this but thems the breaks and its modern trading theses days.
Bottom line is our list is in good shape for the future.

If Tiziani gets through the PSD we can put him straight on to our rookie list if we want him. It's part of the academy rules.

That's the PSD - isn't there some kind of rookie draft on Friday - are they different - what's all that about?

I is now confused.

The PSD goes first then straight after that you have the Northern clubs being about to pick up there local talent as rookies if they so wish, then the regular rookie draft process takes place.

Ok, so what happens if someone bids on Tiziani in the PSD - can we match or do we lose him?
We lose him.

Edit: That's really really unlikely that anyone's going to do that though. They could've just taken him on Tuesday night if they were going to take him.

The GIANTS’ next crop of superstars have arrived at the club to officially start their AFL journey less than 48 hours after their names were called out at the National Draft in Adelaide.

Four new draftees Jacob Hopper (pick 7), Matt Kennedy (pick 13), Harrison Himmelberg (pick 16) and Matt Flynn (pick 41) touched down in Sydney today.

Hitching a ride with Virgin Australia, the players boarded at Narrandera and Wagga Wagga airports with all their favourite possessions in tow.

The draftees spent their first day undergoing medical tests, touring the facility, moving into their lockers and meeting key staff around the club.

They also have a dinner date scheduled tonight with coach Leon Cameron who will formally welcome them to the GIANTS.

All four of the young-guns came through the ranks of the PM CAPITAL GIANTS Academy and attracted bids from rival clubs on draft night.

Player Welfare Manager Dylan Addison said it was an exciting time for the draftees but the hard work is still ahead of them.

“I met the boys at the airport earlier and they could hardly contain their excitement,” Addison said.

“They’re all great mates and get on really well together so that friendship will hold them in good stead when they settle into a new city.

“It’s been a whirlwind few days for the draftees but it won’t take them long to get into the swing of a routine.

“We want them to acclimatise as quickly as possible so they can spend all their energy concentrating on training and improving over the summer.”

The draftees will officially meet their new teammates tomorrow before hitting the track for the first time. - See more at: http://www.gwsgiants.com.au/news/2015-11-26/draftees-touch-down#sthash.5qGPveFK.dpuf

Well if we're not picking them up I hope someone else does. Dogs for Coughlan, Dons for Cornell and anyone should be happy with Tiziani.

Hopefully they will get a gig somewhere.

If GWS is not prepared to rookie list them presumably the club's assessment is that they're not likely to get to AFL level, so not willing to give some time in NEAFL. But, it seems strange that they'd then rookie Sam Reid and Daniel Lloyd - I would have thought that there's quite sufficient mids and forwards in the main list. Would have liked to have seen Tiziani and Coughlan at least on the rookie list to provide some depth in defender ranks, especially Coughlan as KPD (still think we're a bit thin there). I agree we should have at least 2 rookies to keep our numbers at the normal 44 man squad size. It just seems odd to me.
(Perhaps those negatives didn't go out the door after all!) Anyone have thoughts on the strategy the club has?

So the complaints that out concessions allow us to have heaps if players will be null and void if we end up with less than the current normal maximum
