Nick Dodge is the best small power forward according to Knightmare, in the Chapman clone. I trust his judgement, and I think that's the type of player we need.

I'd give Tom Keough a go as a rookie, he can at least be a 3rd tall defender option, and has a good attacking game plan. At 193cm he will do fine as the third tall defender, and can cover a KPD post if required. I rated Jack Firns as a KPD prospect, but as we have already recruited Ryan Gardner as a young KPD, I don't think we need to double up there with another young KPD.

I like the look of Tom Glen as a medium defender, Stephen Tahana is not bad also. Haven't seen enough of Lachlan Walker to know if he is another good HBF type as well.

Matt Debruin is the project player of this year's crop, similar to Blicavs, in the sense he is a very good runner, but in the sprinter mould. Could turn into a versatile utility type. Looks a Wellsy project player.

So what I'm trying to say, get a small forward specialist, another third tall/KPD type that is ready made, and another developing HBF.

Glass-McCasker if possible, the kid's got tons of pace and dash.

After we didn't take any of the standard pick-ups in the draft I'd be surprised if we went down that route in the rookie draft. It looks that the already developed talent this year is really weak so we're going for really raw guys with specific attributes. I'm happy enough with that since we've got 31 players who've already played at AFL level plus Bates and Menegola with multiple years on a list. We might go 1 mature pick-up but apart from that I'd expect it to be very left-field selections.

“We’ll certainly go back and assess what we think is available and that we need in the rookie draft, but having already had a tall forward (Wylie Buzza) and a tall defender (Ryan Gardner) and a couple of midfielders (Sam Menegola and Matthew Hayball), I think that will mean we can go in with a bit of an open mind,” Geelong recruiting manager Stephen Wells said.

Mind blowing stuff

Quick turnaround after last night but the rookie draft is on friday. Geelong have 3 Cat A retained rookies in Delaney read and Bates but with us running two short on the senior list we will have 6 Cat A rookies so we have 3 picks.
Approx pick #9, #27 and #45

Keep in mind also because we have 2 less on the senior list we will be required to have 2 'nominated rookies' who are eligible to play seniors from round 1 and don't have to wait for an LTI to be elevated, so this may increase the chances of us taking a mature or ready made player.

What types of players do we need? What names do you think might fit the bill? Discuss.
I reckon we still need an experienced ruck. Or can we rely on Stanley, Smith, Clark, Vardy + Blitz?

I just doubt we will go for another tall in the rookie draft. I think it will be best available, but a medium/small defender looks like the gaping hole that needs depth, someone good enough to be a play-maker and weapon with kicking off the back flank.

I thought Leonardis fit that bill, he had a good left peg. Unfortunately he was drafted earlier in the night, but someone like him would be ideal if anyone can suggest some names...

I like Bews, he's a close checking defender, but lacks play-making skills, and will not be a quarter-back type defender, like Duryea, Gibson, Suckling, Malceski those types of players...
Bews can't learn those skills? ??? Could Scarlo develop him or mould him to become what we need, CatRiot?

I completely disagree on your last point. You watch Bews game change when we start getting more control through the midfield.

I want Glass-McCasker, reckon there's something to work with there, still pretty raw though.
There is a lot of lurve on our board for Glass-McCasker.

The AFL website states:
"The West Australian tall defender will be a good chance to find an AFL home on Friday with clubs likely to be looking to add a key backman. Glass-McCasker is athletic, pretty quick and can shut down on opponents, and is reliable in one-on-one battles. At 196cm and 95kg he should be able to come in and play a role soon."

What do you guys think that Glass-McCasker can bring to our future back line?

Am asking this BTW, to learn more detail about what attributes, or player types are needed in our team, at present + in future.

couple of project ruckmen, at least with an oversupply of good rucks you can easily trade them in for decent picks
