Official Club Stuff Gameday Village ...annexed by the SMA

O'Connell St. does pretty well out of Port games, though perhaps not as well as you'd hope. Crows games aren't different from any other day.

The Cathedral is a special case though. I honestly have no idea what's going on with that place. That they have managed to **** up that superb location in spite of the free kick they've been given in the past two years is truly remarkable.
I was getting picked up in north adelaide after our showdown last year. I would've just liked a bottle of coke or something yet for some reason the cafe adjacent the cathedral hotel was closed after the game. If that was my business i would've been open on that night.

I end up going to a vending machine in the WCH and there was a line up for it.

Nothing is forever - if someone opposes and appeals a liquor license then it will always be reviewed... the trouble is, now the people that we need to rubber stamp it are working for the SMA!

Campaigners!!!!

The functional relationship is really between the Port Club people and Tennis Australia. White Marquee's problems are pretty incidental to us.
Not quite correct... We get a large reduction in the cost of hiring the marquee as they are sponsors.

So to bring in another companies tents and have to pay retail for it would probable take away nearly all of the small profit that we actually make from the GDV.

If the margins are anything like Koch has said the whole production would have to be questioned.

The Game Day Village provides a much greater value to PAFC than the surplus cash from running it.
If it broke even, or even made a small loss, then it's still worth doing.
It's not even just for our supporters, the most glowing comments I've heard about it come from opposition supporters who have managed to get in and experience it.

Exactly my view.

FWIW I agree on all of this. It's a forest for the trees scenario. The impending SMA action coupled with sustained losses may create a cluster* that will have some asking the worth. I'm hopeful a viable solution will prevail however the timing here is not ideal.

Port Adelaide vows to win complicated battle to keep popular Game Day Village at Adelaide Oval

"The SMA says it is supportive of Port Adelaide’s match-day program, including the “GDV” concept. However, the SMA is concerned for the Oval’s “reputation” being tarnished by fans who take advantage of the $5 beers at the GDV by drinking heavily and enter the Oval under the influence of alcohol.

The SMA will insist on stronger security at the GDV."

If the SMA are so concerned about fans under the influence of alcohol then I say to the SMA, stop making a fortune selling alcohol you hypocritical pricks.

Ah, so the rationale behind the ridiculous price of a drink inside AO is to deter alcoholism? What heroes the SMA are. I suppose the reason that pies and pasties cost 5 bucks each is to deter obesity.

So their only concern is drunk fans entering the ground. Their solution has been to open a 'fan' bar close to the entrance, that will fix it.

Quite amateurish, but I expect nothing less from that sorry arse organisation.
anyone got the eviction numbers from last 2 seasons?

Who runs that area behind the casino?. I've seen plenty of cheap drinks (not just beer as well) and food advertised there. Are they going to try and shut that down as well based on the reasons they've given for trying to shut down the GDV?. It's basically exactly what happens at the GDV isn't it.. people drinking/gathering before they enter the ground?

Don't be hoodwinked by this PAFC!!! fight the good fight! :D

There's quite a few security companies now which have EBA's paying flat rates. Even the main security company that does Adelaide Oval has an EBA.
Cost of security guards overall has come down over the last year. There's more security companies with as much if not less contracts. That's resulted in companies becoming more competitive to win those contracts by lowering their cost/price to clients by using EBA's.
So getting extra security for our GDV shouldn't be a big problem that will 'break it' financially.

So the SMA can go get ****ed.

I saw one drunk* at the football in the the 9 games I went to last year. Would guarantee his inebriation was due to legitimate or not legitimate alcohol provided within the ground.

Not seen any trouble makers any of the times I went to the gdv. Except for BAhCheeHandball...

*not counting the baker's dozen of centrals/crows fans behind the goals at _that_ showdown who were thrown out by 3/4 time.

Looks like it will be curtains for the Fan's Bar then.

I did hear Rooch say that it was a licensing issue and not a SMA or SANFL issue. He said it was to do with the GDV having a temporary license and since it is there every second weekend it should be a permanent one. 11 to 14 days a year is hardly permanent.

I am sure that The Royal Croquet Club and The Garden of Unearthly Delights operate longer than that and would have paid for temporary licences.

Nearly fell out of my chair when Channel 7 made the comment about the SMA having concerns about the Villages cheap drinks affecting crowd behaviour, it's rather laughable for 2 reasons.

They have their own cheap beer selling setup which the overflow of people who can't get into the GDV indulge in, the second being that I've got 2 mates that are regular security staff & both have said that our crowds tend to be well behaved & have less fan evictions than the Crows & Cricket do.

They should really stop trying to act like white knights when the real reason they want to shut it down is because it's one of the best match day experiences in the league & it's the one area the greedy SOB's haven't got their money grubbing mits on.
