Footypedia back online

So after a decade of being offline, I've finally managed to get the footypedia website hosted again.

The last updates had been in 2005, then I stopped updating. Two years later the hosting lapsed and I couldn't contact the hosts to deal with it. I did throw it back up onto some free hosting sites but they all had their own issues. Sure the NLA had an imprint of the site, but it wasn't really the same.

Essentially, there's been no 'pedia for 10 years. it, but I'm finally back up and running. No club/league advertisements on the side, no classifieds, the forums have long gone ... somewhere. It's just the guts of the data.

So for anyone who used to make use of it, there you go.

I have a bunch of unintegrated data submitted back in the 2000s that I am slowly working through, could take me a year or more. But feel free to inform me of updates/corrections via here or Facebook and I'll add it to the long list.

Cheers!

This is great news for those of us who can remember the layout of the original footypedia. Is there a link to the Records and Bests section?

I'm just looking at those boards right now ... I had a reference to Busselton winning 7 premierships in a row from 1946-52 but I'm trying to work out where I learnt it from.

I am unsure about messageboards, Bigfooty has an awesome set-up here and it might be better off working with them. I looked into disqus but I don't think their code likes the way I format my site. Maybe messageboards one day but not for a long time yet. Probably link to here instead at some point.

Are you keenest on the records and bests stuff? We could always set that up here and copy the data across.

I do have a fondness for the records and bests and contributed a fair bit to them. As long as I can still access it, it will be okay with me. Copying the data across would also be a good idea though. Whatever is easiest. I am not enough of a website expert to state whether one option is better than another.

Probably from the South-Western News (Busselton newspaper).

Strictly speaking, Busselton won eight straight. They were known as Pastimes when they won the 1945 flag coming out of WWII, before winning the next seven as Busselton. Either side of the war, the club won 10 flags in 10 seasons - six as minor premier and four times from second place.

Hey Mobbs , any way of fixing the https certificate on Footypedia? My computer never wants to let me through to the actual site.
I'll have to ... teach myself all about the internet! But I will try to work it out. It's GoDaddy who you'd think would have this covered wow

Any updates Mobbs? You might be surprised at how often your site is accessed!

In the meantime, I'm using this Trove-archived version from 2008
It's gone again sorry Gibbsy . I had a dot au suffix which got canned because apparently that's only available I have an ABN. I looked back into other suffixes and apparently footypedia is a popular term now and it'd cost me 2.5 grand to buy one. So I'll probably zip it up again soon and dropbox it.

I'm not one to tell you how to spend your money, but it's only Footypedia.com that's taken (and can supposedly be 'bought back' for $2.5k). Everything else appears to be available.

Even something like .net is only $18 a year through GoDaddy

I'm sure there'd be a few on here (myself included) who could pool together $18 to get this amazing resource back up online!

Oh that's weird, they talked about it as though it was the "footypedia" part that was gonna cost the money. I'm pretty sure it was $18 I was paying for .au . I think I was having a stroke or something when on the phone with godaddy the other day. Couldn't remember the words for any of the things I was trying to talk about. Yes I'll probably go buy something like .net that soon. That's no problem for me. So now I'm just left with my procrastination to deal with. Thanks for the prompting btw. Nice to know it still gets use.
